1100 99 RT 18" changing rear wheel to 1150 R 17"

Since 18" tires are not as common, folks were suggesting getting a 17" 1150 wheel. I picked one up and when getting ready to swap - my RT has the brake disc attached to the final drive and the "new-used" 17" has the disc on the wheel.

Is this just a simple remove the disc assembly on the RT and slide the 17" on or am I semi screwing all sorts of stuff up? :scratch

Unfortunately, that wheel isn’t going to work.

Someone will point you to the right website with all the information, but I believe that the substitution is the 5” wide, 17” wheel from the K1100RS. Somebody please correct this if that’s the wrong bike.

Got it Thanks

I didn't see anything in my Cylmers or whatever book I have so I just started tearing stuff apart and got it figured out. Not sure if I'll need that big spacer that is on my 18" wheel or not. I did put it on for a test fit and the flange on the 17" is small so makes installation a bit harder but the ABS sensor spacing was pretty close so I'll most likely leave it on.

Time to order a new brake disc and a new rear tire and I'll be getting closer to Springfield! :clap

I can’t speak to whether or not that wheel will work, but I do know that if it mounts up you need to carefully check the length of the wheel bolts and make sure they are of sufficient or correct length. There may be some information at Anton Largiader’s website that can help you.

Best,
DeVern

17” wheel

Still a lot of good 160/60/18 tires out there (size on my 1100RS ) it would seem like a lot of effort for not much gain

That size 160 60 18 does have excellent tires available. Try the Continental Road attack 3's, latest technology in a sport touring tire.

That size is getting thinner, but yes, several good tires are available.

I’ve had Avon’s on my 2000 R1100 RS for about 3500 miles. They feel similar to Pilot roads, with good wear ( so far).

The wheels from Anton’s page are from a K1200RS or LT both carry same part number are are made for the F /D with the rotor attached to it. When the R 1150 was made the final drive changed as well as the swing arm. One issue that may occur with using the wheel from an 1150 in this application it that the center of the tire may shift, different wheel, different seating position against a F/D not for that wheel causing handling issues.
