'04 R1150RS Windshield manual adjustment crank/button

My manual windshield is stuck midway (I think). How is the adjustment button/shaft removed? I've removed the windshield and cleaned parts of the shaft and sprayed it with WD40 but it still won't move. I am going to let soak a bit. I don't change the windshield position much so I am assuming it is frozen. Any ideas?

Normally, one just presses down on the big knob (it's spring-loaded) and unscrews it counter-clockwise. It's a pretty long thread, so it takes a lot of turns. The only place it "should" be stuck is along those threads, which are pretty hard to reach while it's all assembled. Or there may be a piece of something jammed along the shaft. Maybe try tapping the knob gently with a small padded hammer?

When you put it back together, if you install a rubber grommet on the top plastic thru-hole, and/or put some heat-shrink sleeving below the knob, that can reduce the "flop" of the windshield.

Thanks for the photo. I soaked it with WD-40. I removed the knob and spring. I then saw down in the shaft a flat screwdriver slot. I got a screwdriver on the flat and with time and steady force, it finally loosened. Reassemble it. The knob wouldn't hold (worn) so I put some stupid glue on it. I hope holds. Time to get serious about a new bike 🤔
