This was the 1st year I stored my 98 K1200RS as the dealer I used for this closed. I put Stabil in the tank at the recommended amount. Battery was maintained with the factory BMW charger, same one used last 5 years while at the dealer. I started the bike a couple times a month and ran until warmed up, according to the gauge. With the carona thing, I did not try to get on the road until about 6 weeks ago. When I would pick the bike up from the shop, it would run crappy for the first tank of gas, getting only 38 mpg. Then it would get back to normal running and 42-45 mpg. It has not run right at all this year, app. 1/2 normal power, LOUD noise from airbox area (loud enough to drown out the Staintune exhaust) and I'm getting 15-20 mpg. I put in the recommended amount of Sea Foam in tank, bike ran a little better but still not right. Bit the bullet, removed the tupperwear, and tank (after buying $45 worth of hose clamps) and inspected the air filter which was fine. Now, it has been mentioned by a member of our local club to change the fuel filter. Is it better to ride the fuel out or to drain the tank in order to get at the fuel filter w/o creating a huge mess and/or fire hazard?....I am not planning on removing the fuel pump as the manual says but going in thru the filler hole after removing the filler cap. Any advise will be greatly appreciated. TIA, John rileous@hotmail.com or 765-577-1409
