I too spent many years in jeans, tank tops and not much else when it came to riding gear. As I got older and less immortal I made the change to the atgatt camp. Have a cousin who rode without atgatt and no lecture will change his mind but by example he's slowly coming round. At least he now wears armored pants and occasionally an armored jacket I have him. Lead through example does work.
