Help With Re-Installing Fuel Pressure Regulator 2007 R1200RT

I, unnecessarily, it turns out, removed my fuel pressure regulator and can't get it back in. The service manual says "install tensioning spring" but I can't push the regulator high enough into the housing to get the spring to go under it.
TIA!

Inspect the interior to confirm there is O ring left behind and the big one is properly located
Lube surfaces with white lithium grease lightly.

Thanks! The o-rings were okay. I finally got it in, it just took more brute force than I was prepared for to get the regulator deep enough into the housing that the tensioning spring would fit underneath it.
