Found this on the shop floor. What is it?

It could be from one of four bikes recently in my shop.
2001 R1150GS.
1987 K75S
2008 R1200RT
R1200GS

I know, that covers a lot of ground, but it would be nice to know where it came from and get it back on the bike.

Looks like it was in the center of a rubber grommet/bumper where a bolt went through. It limited compression of the rubber. There... mystery solved. :banghead
 
If its rubber it looks like a well nut used to secure a windscreen or fairing panel. If it isn't....:dunno

Yup, that was my thought, too.
I'll have to do some more thinkin' on it.
 
on the 12GS windscreen, there is a similar sleeve on the adjuster knob where it passes thru the black plastic notched adjuster, however never seen one all mucked up with grime...other than that :scratch

Have you had a tank off lately? Looks something like one of the "sleeves" shown on the R1100RT "Fuel Supply" "Fuel Tank Attaching Parts" fiche, item #6, part # 2 1390 1 716 097. It fits inside the little rubber spacer part (#7, "Rubber Mounting") that the tank mounting bolt goes through to keep the frame members from bending when you tighten the tank bolt. Not strictly necessary, but without them to prevent the Mounting from compressing you can't really tighten the bolt properly.

I regularly lost the entire assembly when removing the tank until I goobered everything in place (sleeves, rubber item, tank tunnel) with flexible silicone windshield sealant. Same trick holds the "Bump Stops" (#1 on that fiche) and the similar parts on the seat adjuster in place so you don't have to chase them around behind all the stuff in the garage when they drop out.

I think bp@sr9 got it right. I have several floating around my shop floor from my 850 R Scrambler, an RS that I rescued and the Brick I have pushed to the back so I can finish the '55 R 50

I was thinking it might be a piece from K75S instrument cluster mount. Had a box of the clusters in the shop until recently making one good one from 3 bad ones.
Maybe I’ll go to my buddy’s house and check. It’s his bike.

It’s 19mm long and 10mm in diameter. The flange is 12mm. An M6 bolt fits in it nicely.
 
Look closely at your front forks. It is a spacer that fits into the fork. IIRC it goes behind the front fender mount. Probably from the K bike and the oilheads have them too.

Jeez, that bike hasn’t been in the shop for months!

Oh well, at least it got tracked down.
