Greetings from Blairsville GA. I have been riding an 07 r1200rt-p for a little over a year now. Love the bike and love the ride around here. I just joined as a trial membership and was thinking about joining a local club. I can't decide if the GA club or a NC club would be more appropriate for my local area. I live about a mile south of the NC border. Any advice would be appreciated. Also anyone know of any trusted technicians in this general vicinity?

Welcome to the forum. I ride a different style bike and live in a different part of the country, so can't offer appropriate advice, but someone will come along in a bit with suggestions for you. Why can't you join BOTH clubs? Perhaps too-high dues, maybe?

Good luck.

I did consider that however there are more than a couple of clubs in NC, plus I am so new at this that I just don't have enough info yet to decide. I don't think dues to 2 clubs would kill me though :)

Willkommen!

We'd also welcome you into the AlaBeemers if that's worth considering. We do have members from neighboring states -- there just might be an underlying reason... I know the folks in GA are having their annual rally in Hiawassee in a couple of weeks. Go over and say, Hey! Then see if you get along with 'em... Ya know? https://bmwmcoga.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=87&club_id=243122&item_id=775745&sl=1192360930

You appear to have quite a ride to get to a BMW dealer. I hope you can service your bike locally (since it's a few years old by now...). If you had to pick a dealership, though, I might suggest you go with the majority of riders or Club supported by that preference.

Our BMWMOAL rally in southern TN comes up on Memorial Day weekend if you're looking to camp out!

Additionally, AL & GA will have a combined BMW gathering at TWO in Suches, June 28-30!

Lastly, don't overlook the MOA National BMW Rally in nearby Lebanon, TN in June!

Good Luck with your various summer choices! :thumb

Welcome to the forum (from NE Atlanta.) I have been on some of those roads around your parts, but sorry I cannot advise you on any qualified techs that are near to you. Perhaps you can swing by the Georgia Mountain Rally in May get a better idea on some folks that can wrench. On the forum there are a lot of good tips (and folks) concerning basic maintenance; not sure of your skillset or tool inventory, though. Just a thought.

Cheers,
William

Thanks for all the great info! I did end up joining the GA club. I will just take things 1 step at a time. I won't be able to make the Hiawassee or the MOA national rally, but I should be able to get to the Chicken rally and Suches as well. My last bike service I ended up taking it to BMW Motorcycles of Atlanta , and they were really good. That was about 5000 trouble free miles ago. The only place near me is Motor sports plus here in Blairsville. The owners are local to me , and I know that they own several high end bikes (Ducati / BMW) ... they seem to be very customer service oriented. i got some new tires put on with them, and it went well.
