1997 r1100rt oil

I am thinking changing to full synthetic oil for my R1100RT with 83000 miles on it. Any suggestions?

Thanks Bill

Not speaking with any expertise, but my '04 RT w/ 84K on the clock has been on Amsoil 20W-50 since about 6000. I've only had it since 62K, but in those miles it's used less than half a liter. The PO changed every 6000 miles, which I've continued.

The local dealer says a good dino oil is sufficient for the engine but synthetics in the trans and final drive is advised on newer, higher performance models.

Curious why you're considering a change so late in life?

Somewhere is a lengthy thread about pros/cons of changing so late.

I had a FD leak and a head gasket start leaking on a mid mileage, but year model wise older 1100 right after trying both syn oil and gear lube. The FD quit leaking after an immediate swap back...the head gasket never stopped and I had to change it. That bike stays with the old school Non-Syn blends now and no issues in 30K since the experiment.
