How to replace latch on integral cases?

I broke the latch that attaches my gen 1 integral case to the bike. I bought a new one. Now I am looking at a new latch with these 3" long rivets. How the heck do these things work?

TIA

You need a "pop" rivet-gun. You can buy one almost anywhere-auto parts stores/hardware stores/tool stores. The actual rivet will be about 1/4 inch long; the rest will tear off when the rivet is pulled down by the gun.

link did not work for me but I suggest that you just get something basic that will pull the rivet in tight. If you plan on doing a lot of sheet metal work for other applications then buy a decent tool. How about renting or borrowing one from a buddy who does backyard bodywork? Or, take the case down to some shop and pay a couple of $ to have them snap those three rivets on. Me, I'd make the event happen as cheap as possible but still get a good job done. - Bob
