Tour de France - Motorcycles

Any other members out there watching the Tour de France?? I'm spending more time watching the motorcycle press bikes and tour official bikes than I do the actual racing bicycles.

Yep. Between watching the crashes & passes, been checking out the type of motorcycles being used. Saw several big Kawasaki's being used.

Also saw some 12RT's, K100 and K1100LT's. I work with Ironman a couple events a year, and it's interesting to watch what is done in this event vs what we do.

One of the things I like about watching the Giro is the mics. You can hear the motos accelerate and go through the gears. Not so with the Tour. Kawasaki is still the offical supplier of bikes.

As a bicycle rider, it will be great to get the race off those narrow gobble stones. It must be hell riding on those things. As a newbie to motorcycles, I am amazed at the skills of the drivers. They have to be close to the riders, yet stay out of the way of bicycles going 25+ mph with riders that are very fatigued.

Heard or read somewhere that the M/C guys go through a lot of clutches. I watch several and try to go a couple of bigger races every year and am amazed that there aren't more crashes between the bicycles and support vehicles/motorcyces.

I'm watching too. Have been since 2000. I always look for the Beemers and now especially look for the K75 bikes. Saw one in todays Stage 5.

Matter of fact watching those BMW on the tour gave me the bug to check out BMWs.

When you get to the rally, look me up at the Biergarten and I'll tell you about my collision with a runner....
