K1200S Headlight Adjustment

Ok, now I've done it. While adjusting my headlight beam height I turned the adjustment knob the wrong way and it came off in my hand while the headlight reflector went to full elevation inside the assembly. :banghead

Is there an easy way move the reflector back down and to re-attach the knob? Is there a hard way? Instructions either way would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can't vouch that the mechanisms are the same, but, on Voni's R1100RS the rod on the knob went through a coil spring and threaded into a barrel that could rotate. It was extremely difficult to re-engage the rod and the barrel. I managed to do it (in 2003 during the Iron Butt Rally, in a parking garage in Nevada) but left the spring out. I strapped the knob forward with a Velcro strap instead of the spring. It is still that way 19 years later.

Thanks Paul. I have contacted one of the many other gurus we have on this site and he tells he can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.

I may also have a line on a lightly used headlight assembly. I'll be taking the path of least resistance and will, of course, advise the Forum of any progress.
