Funny, but I don't see why guns are verboten. They are just inanimate objects , like any machine. Not good or bad , just a thing like any other piece of metal.

.

Of course you are correct. However, it is not the object that is the issue, it is about the strong feelings that are associated with them.

the strange, evil, unknown & irresistible force inside Planet Altaire?

oh, wait, that was forbidden planet. double whammy, no discussing the 50's :nono

"The Tavern" was the cespool--- I mean place--- where we discussed guns/politics/religion. I didn't care whether it stayed or went, as I never visited it. You'd be surprised how seemingly normal/sane people turn into complete raving asshats when politics or religion are brought up. Hence, I never visit CS&M on advrider, either. (Jo momma is nothing scary.)

Hi Nathan, Do you not have something in your life that you would go to extremes to protect? Your right to ride maybe? You enjoy a good beer? What if someone wanted to bring back prohibition? Would that get you riled up? I'm sure you have such things in your life, we all do. Live and let live!

Regardless of how strongly you feel about these topics, this is simply not the place to discuss them. Take it to a forum that allows it.

To tell the truth, I like the security of this forum. Its kinda like going to a Catholic school with lots of Nuns to keep the inmates...er.. ah... students in line. :)
This forum is a great place with a wealth of info on motorcycles , roads , trips etc.(and lots of nice folks) If this is what it takes to keep it going, so be it. I won't say another word about g__s , p_____s or r_____n.

Hi Darryl, This forum may not be the place to discuss heart felt, passionate ideas (and apparently isn't) but I was merely responding to Nathan's reference to The Tavern as a cesspool. Websters describes a cesspool as a filthy, evil corrupt place or state. I did not find the Tavern as such. ymmv

Bad advice

A sub-forum in which Paul's forbidden four were allowed to be discussed was tried a while back. Did not seem to workout as well as one one might hope. Opinions differ on how we should have responded, but ultimately it went the way of Edsel.

I doubt there is any stomach for another attempt anytime soon. If you thrive on "frank and candid" discussions among open minded people, then you can head over to the Jo Momma sub-forum over at Adventure Rider. Wear your titanium underwear.

Unless you are in the "click" over there, you will end up on the banned bus.

Just ask my ex-girlfriends how un-passionate I am. Regardless, I share my common passion with the club; motorcycles. I don't see why anyone would care what my political or religious opinions are, or why it matters... and likewise; I don't care about someone elses political or religious opinion because it doesn't matter. People like my mom (political talk radio and tv show junkies) misinterpret this trait of mine as some sort of blissful ignorance of "what's going on in the world." To the contrary, I pay attention, but don't care about someones opinion.

Live and let live, indeed. As I said, I didn't care whether it stayed or went.

See how some asshats opinion (mine) can be offenseive? :ha

I'll modify what I said; I did visit it a few times. What I found was hidden baiting/fishing disguised by :brow and :hide. Then, when the inevitable n00b had a head explosion, the instigator would play dumb. We know people can't control themselves when they get "passionate."

I don't see why people wanted it here in the first place; maybe for easy fishing? My advice to those kind of people: CS&M is where it's at.

Unless you are in the "click" over there, you will end up on the banned bus.

I'm in no clique and I've never been banned on any forum.

A fair and understandable position.

On the other hand, some, like myself do care about others opinions, especially when I don't agree with them. And I especially like to share opinions and ideas with people I have a common interest with. I belong to an excellent forum for Suzuki GS motorcycles and we have an outstanding off topic forum where anything can be discussed...and yes, it can get heated. But our common bond, our love of a certain motorcycle keeps us in check, allows us to share different points of view and, most important, learn about each other.

I would love to share controversial subjects with the folks here...it would be great to learn what you all believe and why...and if it gets heated, well so what? At least we all seem to like BMWs....:brow

It is not very interesting to talk about gun control on a gun lovers site...not much difference of opinion.
The ground is too common...

Now this doesn't mean I think this forum should change...Off topic areas just don't work an all forums, (although I've never understood why)

In fact, I am just a noob here, and I probably shouldn't even be sharing my opinion on this.
Hope I haven't offended anyone...I think I'll just sit down now...:wave

But it apparently didn't stay "in check" here. Maybe Suzuki GS riders are more refined and civil than some BMW riders.
