Wow, this is better than I had hoped!
When I wrote my earlier post and gave examples of things we didnt want to read about, I had more examples. I had "George bush is the worst president." I had "America is at fault for training bin laden to fight the Russians." and I had "the right to choose should not be the right to murder." I thought that by having a balanced list of stupid, dogmatic, parroted examples from the left and the right I could make my point. But then I thought, "you know, we have a couple of blowhard a$$hats on this forum. They like to troll and bully other people. I wonder if there is a fun way to both state and DEMONSTRATE exactly what is wrong with DGT." so I edited my note and removed the balance. I left only the "liberal" examples. And a couple of you jumped all over that and immediately began labeling me, jumping to conclusions, and roaring with indignation.

Thank you for demonstrating exactly why DGT is no longer available. That couldn't have gone more smoothly. :thumb

For the record, I wouldn't like to see this place turn into ADVrider.
I see this as a Country Club of Forums and ADVrider as the Mosh Pit of forums. There is a big difference.

Don't you call my liberal friends a$$hats whatever that is, or trolls or bullies.

The only difference between the MOA forum and Advrider is the former kept its ÔÇÿcraziesÔÇÖ locked up in a forum hidden in the back while latter built them a porch, gave them rockers and let the world see them. I didnÔÇÖt spend much time in the back room, but I am sorry it was torn down for what ever the reasons.

Isn't this admitting that the original post was "trolling". Isn't trolling banned? Aren't intentional trollers banned? Where are the mods now?

Way to go username. I had said my piece and was hanging back but that just plain pissed me off.

What a way to build trust and confidence in the members at large by your doing exactly what you claim DGT was shut down for. You may not be pleased with our reaction to shutting down DGT and maybe your getting a little tired of the fight, but you actually proved 2 things with your post, not one.

The first (as you have said) was that yes, the DGT crowd does get pretty pricky about things (myself included).

The second thing you proved, is that you at least as a mod are no different in this case, than the other DGT posters you are condemning. You admitted yourself that by the way you posted, your post was an intentional troll to elicit a certain response (let's not play symantics with this OK?. Then you come back on and wave it in everyones face because you can. It gives the appearance of an agenda.

Like I said before, not cool, not cool at all.

A bike forum ? Baby sit ? Wow

The Beer Team said this is a bike forum and it is PG 13. Enough already. Don't expect the Photography to need baby sitting.

:scratch

Last year at the Slimey Crud Run, I photographed a Funny T-shirt. The photo had a picture of a man's T-shirt with pictures of President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and a phrase similar to the popular film title "Meet the Fockers." But the forum moderator (Brad, who is a buddy) PM'ed me, noting the photo was not PG-13, and had to edit it out. Not a biggie.

Brad explained to me that some members log on at work, some adults log on to the BMWMOA web site with the wife or kids and I had to take the photo down.

I PM'ed the moderator at ADV and he thought the shirt photo was way cool. So I guess it boils down to different standards of what is cool and what is not cool.

With the moderators warning, I learned when I am at Sturgis, Colorama or any other like event with my camera, to think before I post, so my photography should not need (as much) babysitting.

Personally DGT, Jo Momma or the shirt will not offend me.

Maybe time to cool down and rethink the subject.

I am righting this in open forum rather than a series of PM's so that the discussion is out in the open for review by all the membership.

I think this thread has firmly established that there are a number of people who liked the DGT. I think there are a significant number of people who participated in it and my observation was that it was growing. I also found that while not everyone participated, the users I found on the DGT forum were for the most part the ones I see the most frquently on the rest of the forum.

So the experiment is over. OK.

Can we have a real dialogue, leaving the flame out (posting a "I doubt this can be done" comment will simply be the first flame so let's all try to keep this credible, ok.) and discuss the option of a non-experimental, permanent DGT type forum?

I think those who used DGT regularly have a weighted opinion about it's value. I think those who looked and didn't like and so didn't come back have a valid opinion as well, but perhaps not as weighted. If i don't like the way my buddie's bike handles and he loves the handling, it would be silly to change it for me since I'm not the primary user. Simple pragmatism.

If moderation is an issue, why not let some of us who want DGT to stay, step up to moderate. I would be willing if others found that acceptable.

Have those in favor of continueing a permanent DGT agree to adhereing to a set of guidelines (the previously stated ones are fine) in a more formal fashion (the old "I accept these guidelines" button to enter each time would work). This would work as a double caution of what the forum is about for anyone venturing in. If people still choose to enter at that point, well, they have been adequately informed.

This whole boondoggle can be resolved if we want. My idea is fairly simple at this point but I think a workable solution may be built from it. At least we can discuss the possibility here right?

In other words, "All are equal but some are more equal than others."

Where have I heard this before?

As a young lad , I lived on a farm. Without exception it was always the pig that caught in the closing gate that squealed the loudest.

Asking for Forum leaders input.

I have Pm'd all the folks listed as "Forum Leadership" on this site and asked them to respond to this thread and my post #131 specifically. Let's give them a chance to respond and see if this discussion can be productive.

Response to post 131

Does anyone else find it curious that those who are from the right and from the left want to keep the forum but those who don't specifically want to keep the forum have not yet come out from under their slimy rocks and publicy stated so?

it's really hard to figure out what part of "it sucked" that some folks are just not getting.

DGT is like an apartment dwelling insect that won't go away. Let me explain;

In large apartment complexes, some resident will bring in roaches, then lots of roaches will start to appear, skipping through the walls into the neighboring apartments. When the exterminator is finally called, entire ROWs of apartments will be fumed at once, and usually imeediate relief is found by the apartments that had the commercioal roach bombs set off. HOWEVER the next 20 apartments start to have a roach, problem; they simply moved!

Take DGT away, kill it, bury it and I assure you

it will rise up in other areas of the forum

you never thought possible.

Unless you weed out all the "malcontents" myself included (all 6 of em? HA! where did you learn to count?) and cancel our membership, burn our BMW MOA card,

your roach problem will continue....

why do you think the roach has been around for hundreds and thousands of years?

cause their smart? not necessarily..

They just (confound it mother nature!) they just are part of life, and part of this world!

+1

No surprise that I agree 100%. I will not be shocked when your reasonable attempt to find some middle ground is a) rejected out of hand or b) rejected with all sorts of reasons given why it won't work. Frankly, the powers that be have made their decision and from my observations on how things go around here it is unlikely to change. I would love to be proved wrong but I'm confident I won't be.

Ian,

With all due respect, what you call "sucked" we call "forcefully drawing debate and banter into our minds"

Both require rapid induction, but are distictly different. And from what I can tell the roaches are distinctly in the majority, not that that means one thin dime...

I am struggling with the difference between some think it sucked and it sucked, and others did not think it sucked.

Ian, I am not trying to be a jerk here, I am trying to suggest alternatives. There is no acrimony intended on my part with these suggestions. I'm hoping that your responses and those of others will also reflect that.

And thank you for demonstrating exactly why DGT is no longer available. In your post you admitted as a moderator that you have no management ability to deal with trolls and asshats properly. As a Mod you fostered their behavior by allowing them to continue. This to many of DGT posters was the demise of the thread. Thank you for the educational experience so I can see why the Moderators job is so "thankless",and it certainly isn't one sided. But hey it is just a forum so do not personalize it because of you doing the difficult job as a volunteer. It is very sad however to see you stoop to kick us while we were down. But it was expected from your past managerial conduct. So lets just hope this is a learning process so some good can be attained for the good of your group.

BTW the Afghan/USA/ Russia connection was on the History Channel this past week. I think the show was called History Declassified / The Taliban so it was no left vs right issue as you perhaps attempted to illustrate.
