Who else besides me like beer in a can?

I'm no wine snob, so I don't consider myself a beer snob either. Sure, I like to treat myself to the good stuff once in a while, but I gotta admit there's something about the metallic after taste of beer in a can that I like. I also think its easier to get beer cold quicker in cans. Maybe it's the nostalgic memories of college (or High School) that fuel the fascination. I still like that occasional ice cold Iron City, Busch, Genny, or PBR in a can. I'm sorry if any of you find this repulsive, but I had to get it off my chest. Now, if you'll excuse me, I've gotta grap that PBR on deck in the freezer.

I don't like all beers in cans, many seem to pick up taste from whatever alloy they are travelling in.

Cans work for me...

Remember this tried and true formula:
The hotter the temps, the cheaper the beer.

I usually buy Leinenkugels by the 12-pack of cans.

Cans are good for when you're working in the garage, or grilling on the patio. You don't have to worry about accidentally breaking any glass. When I buy bottled beer, I'll often pour it into a pilsner glass. But cans are pretty darn practical.

It's funny how some beers do well in cans.. Bud, PBR.. for example. They taste just about the same bottle vs can. Other beers, such as Molson's or Rolling Rock.. EEEEEEEEEK! Rolling Rock in a can tastes almost nothing like the bottle or keg version.

OK, I'll be the first "anti" can guy. While I'll drink beer in a can if it's free, I NEVER buy beer in a can. Beer in a glass bottle stay cold longer (not that I like to give it a chance to warm up), it tastes better (if cans were better, microbreweries would use them), and nothing is a better weapon than a broken off glass bottle.

That, and I come from Toledo. Last I checked we were still considered the "Glass City"; even if most of the glass manufacturers have moved to the suburbs for tax purposes.

although i used to fancy myself a "beer snob" i have really come to hate the term

i drink a TON of different beers, due to several friendships with people very "IN" the craft beer industry, 5 to 10 new beers a month is not uncommon. i don't think it's snobby to try new stuff and maybe pay a little more for a good glass. it gets to me when people limit themselves and see something like Sam Adams or Bass as real "top shelf" beer, there are worlds beyond.....


that being said, there are two types of beers for two types of mood:

1. i'm out for a nice dinner, i want a tasty beer that will excite my pallet and compliment the food i've selected
2. i want to get wasted, i don't want to pay a lot to do it and i want to be able to control my level of intoxication and not go "over the edge" because i'm drinking 12% weirdo beer brewed by monks in a cave in swaziland. this is where can beer comes in.

PBR, Schlitz, Hamms, Gennesee Cream Ale, Old German, Golden Aniversary, Black Label, heck even the occasional Bud are all pretty good. what really pisses me off is when a dude with a Coors or a Rolling Rock or some such crap says beers like PBR suck. they clearly have no concept that these are all just cheap-o pilsners and pretty much the same

cept Busch, that stuff WILL induce painful hangovers

I met Bill Eppley at the Falling Leaf about 9 or 10 years ago. I pulled up into a slot and asked him if anyone was camping here and he said "no, help yourself.". I pulled out a 20 and my collaspible cooler and told him I hate putting up a tent without a beer in my hand. "I`ll buy if you fly." Needless to say many, many beers and campfires later we have become the best of friends. BEER aka, male bonding juice.

If your under 21 - you drink out of cans
over 21 - 30 - cans & bottles
31 + glass only

You know if you've had to much when you look through your beer glass at another person and she looks to hot. Then you stop drinking or your wife cuts you off. ,

I'll admit it. I'm a beer snob. And proud of it!! After living in Germany for four years I can't drink anything but German beer . . . and it rarely comes in a can around here.

Good Beers

I have often heard it said beer is proof God loves us.

Once upon a time when I lived near Philadelphia we used to go the the Schlitz brewery and get 5?ó beers, I was big on the Schlitz but later switched to Black Label.

There were others I tried, Hamm's, Genesee, Rolling Rock, Iroquois. When I was boating on the Chesapeake National Bohemian used to broadcast from a boat, if you could find the boat you won a case of National Bo, I never was able to find the boat so I don't know what it tastes like.

Later years after moving to The Florida Keys, Michelob, Busch and Bud were the most popular, Miller in the bottle also had a place there.

In my younger days we bounced back & forth between the Bahamas and the Keys, I discovered Becks Beer, what I did not realize at the time was the alcohol content was considerably higher, whoopee, two of those boys put can put me in the stumble fall down mode.

We can buy Becks here but the alcohol content is the same as Bud, the Becks comes in a bottle, I enjoy Bud from either bottle or can. But I see a lot of Corona, they shove a lime wedge in the bottle opening. While Coors mountain water seems to be fading away.

Ah, Natty Boh. I came of age in Bawlmer and drank my share of Boh - cans or bottles didn't matter. It sure went well with steamed crabs.

I drink less beer these days since I discovered martinis. Liquor's quicker.

Obviously no one here has ever been on a river trip...

On a river trip, you like to minimize sharp objects (broken glass) and the size of your supplies (crush empty beer cans), so bottles are usually prohibited.

You'd be amazed what you can get in a can. Heineken comes in a can. The Guinness, Murphy's, and other Irish stouts available in the nitrogen cans taste better than the bottled stuff.

When empty, you crush the can and pack/float it out. Canned beer is great when size and weight are an issue - although I have been known to backpack in beer in glass bottles.

Find campsite. Find patch of snow nearby. Stash beer in snow bank. Go set up camp, build tent, etc. When done, drink ice cold beer. yummy!
