Mid-South ride, eat, and meet

I’m always repurposing and salvaging things. Broke the handle on a good BMW coffee cup. It was sitting out in a bucket on my back porch. I’m usually hanging out at Kathy’s house in West Memphis in the carport. Her garage with an old kitchen table in the center is the hangout for all her buds. All day from dawn to dusk. Gets to be a little overloaded with coffee cups, cell phones, endless note taking, you know all the usual stuff that goes on at a crowded table. Pencils, pens, paper to write on. Picked up the cup, broke off the remnant of the handle. Put the loose pencils, pens, magic market, etc, in the cup. Perfect for a little organization on the table. Perfect to see a BMW at the table.

Was at Performance Plus BMW in Memphis the other day. Took a pic of one R1800. It’s similar to the 1st editions when the R1800 debuted some years back.

Thought it was a cool buy, until I got home and checked the price. Whoa, kinda pricy. Should have waited till it hit the discount table. Old age mental brain power is starting to decline and wane.

I’m a solo act; uh, solo rider; no passengers. I generally set my bikes up for just me. I’ve acquired a couple of solo airhead seats. Recently acquired an over the fender rear rack. I plan to get more active in attending local rallies. Need space for tent and sleeping bags for camping out.

I’ve been in a long process converting a ‘87 K100RT to a more standard K100. I always had a problem with my knees hitting the back of the fairing. After one long ride years ago, my knees were banged and bruised. Time to sell this bike. One day in the garage, looking at the bike, I finally decided, no, I’ll keep the bike. I started the process of removing the fairing.

Kinda sad, seeing the bike with the fairing removed. Got busy, procured a couple of standard K100 headlight assembly’s. One was the early version like the ‘85 models. I like the later version a little better. Looked more like typical headlight bucket assembly. Either one will work for me.

Years ago I had a low speed layover of the RT. One of the crash bars was crushed in the mishap. Just acquired a couple of black replacements. I wanted black over the chrome versions. On my original RT, the bike only had 2 small pieces of chrome on the back. The RT emblem on the front of the fairing and the K100 emblem on the back tail of the bike. Glad I got the black bars. Kinda funny, on the K100 project looking for less chrome on my R90/6 more chrome.

The BMW Rams had their monthly meeting in Cordova, Tn, yesterday. Had some time on my hand, due to the endless monsoon rains, so I drove over to see some of my old buds and budettes.

Had a good/enjoyable visit. Good to catch up with old friends and hear the latest news. Kinda sad to see that we’ve become an elderly group. The main topic is not motorcycles, but the sharing of our latest health issues, medicines, doctors, etc.
