2016 RT valve cover leak

Valve cover gasket leak 2016 RTW, new gasket torqued 10nm, still leaking.

ideas?

Did it start leaking out of nowhere or immediately following a service?

My suggestion would be to:

  1. Remove the valve cover and gasket.
  2. Clean the gasket thoroughly by wiping all oil off of it. Inspect the gasket for damage.
  3. Clean the mating surface of the valve cover and engine casing by wiping all oil off of it.
  4. Seat the gasket carefully onto one surface (probably the valve cover itself) and then fit the valve cover with gasket in place
  5. Torque down the valve cover to spec.

If this doesn't do it, or if the gasket is damaged, you need a new one.

Thanks for the reply.
The problem showed after valve check maintenance.
When replacing the cover I wasn't particularly concerned about oil on the gasket, though both it and the mating surface did get a wipe.
I'll take care to get things cleaned up when re-installing
Thanks

Good Advise

Reinstalled the valve cover and spark plug tunnel gasket after careful cleaning of gasket and mating surface.
Results perfect.
Thanks for the info.

There are two or three pin holes that posts in the gaskets fit into. Before installation of the gasket those holes need to be wiped clean as well. Just wad up a rag or some paper towels. I too did what you did when I first started doing boxer maintenance. I also thought it was a leak. Kind of like a right of passage.
