Can’t remove rear u-joint form f/d 2001 R1150GS

I’m in the process of replacing f/d pivot bearings with bushings from Anton Largiader.
The Clymer manual says to gently pry the u-joint out of the f/d. I’ve tried gently and not very gently. It doesn’t move. What am I missing?
Also, there were no instructions included, so I’m not 100% sure which way the bushings go in—-they have a shoulder and a washer.

Help, please.
Jeff

There are some tools you can buy but, this method takes three hands.

Take two pry bars spaced 180 degrees apart and put gentle pressure on them. With your third hand, take a soft face hammer or dead blow and drive the coupling down and as soon as it has been hit, pry up fast.

Ok, Dieselyoda, I’ll give it a go as soon as my buddy can come by to supply the third hand.
Thanks.

Thank you sir! It worked and now I begin the process of installing the bushings.

It appears the side with the narrow washer faces the outside of the f/d housing, so I’ll give a shot this morning.

All back together and on the road.....not sounding like the creaking door in a horror movie.
Woohoo:dance

Thanks to Dieselyoda for the help.
