Touratech Steering Stop Guards Overview and How I Broke My Steering Stops on BMW GS 1250

Steering Stop Guards? I didn’t know they were such a thing until I had to Google “Broken Steering Stop”.

My 2019 GS 1250 with 60K miles on was recently totaled out by Progressive, in part, due to a cracked steering stop. Here’s a 3 ½ minute video about what happened and my attempt to prevent this from happening to the new bike.

I personally would have TIG welded a new stop on the steering head.

And as you mentioned, Touratech has been making those steering stop protectors for a few decades. Their shop in Germany is like going to heaven. Yeah some of their items are bling but other items they have are quite useful.
