R65 Date of Manufacture Question

Hi All-

I have purchased a 1980 R65 with a VIN of 6381636. It appears many parts for airheads are divided between those built before and after 9/80. Since this bike is an ‘80, safe to assume it was manufactured before 9/80? Seems that perhaps the ‘81 model year would commence production after that date..

According to RealOEM, your bike was built 11/1979, so it seems clearly a 1980 model. IMO it's too far before 9/80 that I wouldn't think you would need to worry about before/after parts situation.
