Advice/help needed/injury

Good morning everyone
Recently fell off a ladder, 7 foot fall onto concrete. So I need to explore options. Sell my bike due to balance issues or is it possible to trade my 2011 perfect condition GS 1200 for an RT with a sidecar? Any and all thoughts appreciated and respected. Feel free to contact me directly at w.brandon6217@yahoo.com if you like. Bill

Welcome to the forum. That's a great question - balance, and what to do about it.

Since you didn't give any specifics about the nature and extent of your injury due to the fall off the ladder, I wouldn't rush into anything yet. If you haven't already, I'd go to a specialist, and make sure the balance problem is permanent. Some balance problems can be treated. Low blood pressure, and ear infections can cause poor balance. I almost passed out in a grocery store about 10 years ago due to a new blood pressure med my doctor gave me. I told my doctor, and after a new med was prescribed the problem was solved. Your medications, etc. could be the cause.

There are also ways to improve balance. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-l...ur stability.

If your ladder-fall balance injury is permanent, I couldn't give better advice than Kevin.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide.

Time

I give people a week or two before getting upset they don't reply. Most people don't park on the forum like I do, they have better things to do, LOL. St.

Is it just me or is it rude when the OP never comes back to a thread they start?

If a person suffers a serious and potentially life changing injury and asks a question on a forum I would be quite willing to be very patient in expecting a return to the forum. The original post might have happened on a "good" day, followed by more than one "bad" days - either physical or emotional.

My approach would be to be as helpful as I can, and to then hope life sorts out for the best for the person who suffered the injury. I won't be stressed if that person doesn't get back for a while.

And being a newbie, they could be returning as a guest, not getting around to logging in. As Paul said, they could be navigating a tough time.

A good, cheap sports car can be a solution, as well, if straddling a trike or sidecar is difficult.

We’re migrating that way at this house.

Miatas and Boxsters are plentiful, affordable and easy to maintain. Club support is great, too. Prices can be bike like, especially for Miatas.

I love things with two wheels, but I toured with a couple on a Wing trike and they hit EVERY pothole. They had all the disadvantages of a bike and a car with the advantages of neither, in my humble opinion.

Hack or sports car for me. We went sports car. It’s a hoot and my increasingly arthritic wife is happy to come with me in relative comfort with a nice heated seat.

Convertible

After my second accident stopped my wire or anyone else for that matter riding on my bikes. We bought a BMW 335i for the two of us to trip in.

I don't recommend the 335i, hindsight and I would have gotten something else. St.

Since you brought it up, what would you have gotten?

Thanks,

Now

I really wanted the 335 until I owned it. It has put me off BMW 100%. As for other similar cars, I have not idea. Porsche and MB are out of my price range. I don't know if I would fit into a Miata. If the 335 were reliable, it would be perfect sad to say. St.

I was just making the point in general, I get everyone has other things and injuries definitely change things. It was just reminding me of how many times I've seen it over the years and I find it a bit irritating.

Just to clarify, your issue was that it ate a water pump at 75K miles?

I put about 80k miles on one of those and loved it, even though it ate a water pump at about 75k miles. We bought a CPO with full service history and commuted into SF, did epic long distance haul ass drives in it, etc. until we got a 335d, which was a backroad weapon.

Guy has an injury. Asks if its a good solution for him to buy an RT with a sidecar. We advise him to buy a car. Which then degrades into BMW bashing (what a surprise).

Next subject please.

I agree

I made my points about BMW in other posts.. I answered questions in this post honestly.

Comments were made as to alternatives to a two wheel motorcycle, for some, convertible cars may be the answer.

I concur let's stick to the original subject. St.

FTFY

Wouldn't it be nice to just help the new member?

People have rolled forward with three proposals: two that require straddling - a hack or a trike, and one that provides open air motoring but no straddling required.

I'd say folks have been helpful with a variety of suggestions with context around each.

But you run this place differently than I ever did, so sure, whatever you say. :ha
