Will a 90 K1 body fit an 88 K100 Frame ?

Well the title says it all. I'd like to take all the plastic, seat & tank from the K1 and put it on an 88 K100 frame. Does anyone know for sure if it's the same frame on both bikes? Thanks in advance....

I don't get it....why?

Like most things.... just time and money...

Better off just finding a complete K1:

I've seen K1 tupperware on a K75 that was slick.

For the money you could find a K1200RS and have a far superior runner. Depends what you want. I suppose.

The '88 K100RSE was one of the prettiest Klassic Ks made. IMHO

Ask Greg H. in NorCal (recently built one *from bare frame* and rode it to Redmond)
has '85 heads + white powdercoated & pinstripped 3 spoke wheels running Z6s)-sweet!
(sorry just my .02)

There WILL be an issue with the pegs and foot controls. The K1 has setback pegs and controls. The body work around the foot area would not allow the use of the K100 pegs or controls (rear brake pedal and shifter).

The K1 peg position and body work around the foot area is what makes the K1 so uncomfortable to ride except for a lucky few appropriately sized and flexible people. I'd buy one in a heartbeat if I could comfortably fit on one.

I was thinking about the footpeg mounts also. Don't think you'd fit your feet in there with the K100 mounts and the K1 fairing.

Also, looking at the MaxBMW fiche, the K100RS and the K1 frames have different parts numbers- but that might not indicate that they are physically different.

I believe the K1 frame is similar to the K100 4v and K1100 in that it has some extra steering head braces under the tank. The tank has a wider hump underneath to clear these. K1 (and K1100) tanks can be made to fit on the single tube K100 frame, but early K100 (and K75) tanks cannot be made to fit on the later multi braced frames.

For those who would like to see what a K1 looked like, see the January 2011
copy of Rider magazine. There's a two page history of it with lots of pictures.
It must have been one of those bikes that you loved the look of it, or you
hated it.

You had the K1 with a paralever drive train...and an '88 K100 with a monolever. Something won't fit.

Besides, the K1 had a turning radius of a football field...terrible city bike or even switchbacks.

Slick body work that allowed you to cook your lunch while you rode :violin

K1 and K100RS 4V are very similar. K100RS 2V is different. 4V footpeg plates fit on K1, for example.

But don't they (the 4V plates) put the pegs (and the brake and shift lever) inside the bodywork making them unusable?

That's true, although a few people put the K100RS-4V plates on K1s and cut the bodywork slightly to make them work. I tried this and hated it.

I suspect the K1 bodywork will bolt up to an 8-Valve K. While the Paralever does extend the wheelbase via it's longer swingarm, the frame's length is, I believe, the same. Otherwise the same battery covers and tail section would not have worked from 1986-1997.

There are two extra tabs on the back of the frame that you will need to fab up. Other than that it should work fine.
