Where ya going, What ya taking?

Great thread! Our son will be home on Thanksgiving. My wife is the queen of the kitchen, and can put on an unbelievable feast, as long as I stay out of the way. (She's a former home ec teacher.) Our daughter and husband live in NYC and will not make it home, but we'll talk to them for sure.

Everyone have a great Thanksgiving. Weather in the midwest is looking good for some riding time. :D

big calories

I am having my parents over along with a few other family members including my son who is in from college. I will be doing 95% of all the cooking.

I am now off to get air in the rad's tires so I can ride tomorrow.

Maybe I will see Boxergirlie out in the area somewhere.....

Very many things to give thanks for in this family. My son is able to come home from the Air Force Academy (2 degree), my daughter is on her way right now to the Orlando Airport for her return and everyone goes to Grandpa and Grandma's tomorrow! Yay!! Weather in Cincinnati is Spring-like!! Happy Thanksgiving to all!!

I've been on the road for the last two weeks. Work related not two wheeling. I'll be staying home with the wife and kids and enjoying the holiday. May even pull some motor stables with the bikes.

...knowing full well my culinary skills (legendary, I tell ya...) has asked me to bring the cut veggies and a dip. :)

I've had this assignment the last two years also. I think they're trying to tell me something but I'm not complaining. I'm not sure if I should be insulted or not. I've at least graduated from bringing the store bought dinner rolls. This year I think will be clam dip and a bag of scooper Fritoes.

Heading down to Marriottsville, MD tomorrow for dinner. Friday will be my annual trip to Bob's BMW for farkles followed by the annual Turkey Bowl football game pitting the Pennsylvania side of the family vs the Maryland side of the family. Similar to Michigan-Ohio State. :D

Forecast for tomorrow calls for rain I think but Sat and Sun look like good riding days, after raking the last of the leaves of course. :( Plan to get some miles in then.

Ascending 3 stories to my mother-in-law's apartment (yes, I know, we live in the same building as my wife's mother... ) after returning from watching the Macy*s Parade on Central Park West @ 65th Street (50 yards from our building).

As usual, I'll be roasting the Turkey, making the Apple-Sage-Sausage-Stuffing, whipped yams and the gravy. My mother-in-law, Hungarian pastry chef extraordinaire, will be providing the desserts :thumb (these Hungarians for some reason have an aversion to Pumkin Pie, so I gotta bring a little one for myself!).

Oh yeah, we'll be drinking an assortment of Single Malts an' Bourbons (well, I will, at least!)

The Big Guy is smoking a Turkey. :brow I'm made the punkin pie, cranberry-orange relish, deviled eggs and spuds. We'll be 5 with his 2 girls and my kiddo.

I gotta work Friday... :violin

Hoping to see a bunch of ya's at Moto Market's open house on Saturday.

I start a 36 hour shift at work tonight at 8pm. I will get off work Friday morning at 8 am. I will be answering everyones call who says their dog ate the turkey carcass, or the whole turkey, or the lasagna, or whatever else. (Emergency Veterinary Hospital) It is historically a slowish holiday at work. We had a grill last year. It crapped the bed on us this year and we haven't replaced it. I was thinking of loading mine up so we can cook. I am taking a toaster oven too work. Probably gonna make the green bean casserole...a staple for me.

Girl I work with loves to cook. I am sure she will bring in large amounts of food. She always does. Holidays she goes overboard. 36 hour shift. We get to sleep at work so it isn't bad. When it is slow we pull out the roll-away beds. First 12 hours is regular time. next 24 are at time and a half. I then finish up the pay period with a 24hr shift on Sunday. First 4 will be regular time but the last 20 will be time and a half. I will make up my family time on Friday and Saturday.

Wife and daughter will be going to my Brother-in-Law's for the festivities. They may stop in and visit me at work for a little while. She video tapes a lot for me when I can't be there.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Keep it safe and hug your families tight.

Belquar,

Having made a few trips to the emergency vet myself (with a couple of beagles who try to ingest evrything), I thank you for your service to our canine (and feline) friends. Keep the charcoal handy.

I guess we're supposed to go someplace for dinner. It's odd, because this makes maybe the second time in about 20 years that I'll be sitting down at somebody'e house for the holiday dinner. Usually it's been fending for ourselves at deer CAMP. At times it's been fresh venison, other times steaks or whatever, all cooked over a wood fire outside. Look up and see the stars, listen to the 'yote's howl in the distance, and enjoy the camaraderie. I didn't go hunting this year, I am the last one from the group. Seeing as camp was 7 miles from the nearest paved road, with spotty cell signal, being alone wasn't so bad. But now as I'm getting older, I am concerned about what might happen, alone. So I took the year off. I'll be back, just need some time off from hunting.

Everybody enjoy the day!

For me, I am happy to be home. The L&T Jennifer is making Turkey and stuff. All low carb and diet friendly. She has to work on Friday, and I will probably do some prepping for the Free Loot Days in December.

I'm getting up to bake a cake. It's a dark, bittersweet chocolate cake, the recipe for which has been in my mother's family for about 100 years and which I have finally mastered. Tonight I made the icing, which is a modified custard-filling type. I'm taking the cake to a potluck at my church. I grew up Unitarian, so I know how to load a plate at a potluck! :eat

After that, I'm supposed to meet up for an all-too-rare second date with a pretty cool girl I just met...wish me luck for a third!

Good luck, maybe give her the cake instead?

I took my bike and rode up yesterday to my folks for T-day. Already brought the wine, so I will go for a small bike ride with bro and dad, while mom wrestles with the food :deal Her choice btw, as the kitchen is off limits to us :clap

PS Veg;Good Luck!! :dance

My plans

I started this thread but never said what my plans are! The turkey is brined and in the oven. Alton Brown has a great brining recipe; I will never do a turkey without brining it. I have some Anton Schwartz playing in the background, a hot cup of coffee and the sun shining through the window. It is supposed to be warm out, maybe I have time for a quick ride before the Mom-in-law and brother-in-law get here. Good luck with the date, Veg. Amen to a prayer of thanks to those serving our country. To those working today good luck and hope to see you all on the road one day!

Happy Thanksgiving! :eat

Thanks y'all, but she had to cancel- but asked for a raincheck, so keep those fingers crossed. Second dates are pretty rare in my world.
