What to look for on used R1100RT

I'm riding a 2001 R1100RT, build date, late November 2000. BMW was assembling and selling both 1100 and 1150 for model year 2001.

Right. I had forgotten in 2001 they built both. I've worked on an 01 1100 and wondered why it had Torx screws in the fairing and at a rally noticed an 01 1150 that had hex screws in the fairing!

They switched to all Torx in 2002 but before then I guess the assemblers were emptying whatever hardware bins were handy. :scratch

Yup! That sounds about right. As much as I enjoy my bike, having to deal with all those fairing fasteners every time I need to service the bike drives me insane!

No kidding! I have not put the bottom fairing piece on in ages. I dremeled larger holes in the tank mounted fairing piece to take that out of the equation and ran a tap and die on all all the holes and fasteners to fix previous issues. I also sprayed them all with Fluid Film.
