What do you sing/hum to yourself while riding??

made me laff!

"Don't Take Me Alive" Steely Dan

I was about to answer that when I'm out on a long day's ride, I invariably try to sing all of "Sergeant Pepper", start to finish, with all the "da-da-da-da-bums, horn parts and guitar riffs, but when I saw your post I remembered i also sing selections from "Royal Scam." The lyrics are just too great; ironic, bitter and funny.
"Every A-frame had your number on the wall....you'd go to LA on a dare and you'd go it alone!"
Donald Fagan's "Nightfly" has some terrific sing-alongs, too.

i've luckily had an ipod ever since:groovy
I rode with Burnzilla and his buddies in and around the East and South Bay last year and the whole while, up and down twisties, curvies and straights, they were grooving on their 'pods. That's when I knew I had to ride with one.

Twisted Sister - Ride to Live, Live to Ride

:rocker
HARD ROADS AND ENDLESS LINES
FLOW THROUGH HIS VEINS
COLD STEEL AND HOT FUEL INJECTED
'S THE DREAM THAT FILLS HIS BRAIN,
BUT NO, NOT SLOW
THE SPEED FEVER GROWS
HE RIDES, HE SEES, HE KNOWS

YOU'VE GOT TO
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
FEEL THE FLAMES BURN INSIDE
AND THOUGH YOU KNOW
YOU RIDE TO HIDE
YOU RIDE TO LIVE TO RIDE

LIFE'S SHORT AND GOES TOO FAST
MOST PAGES BURN
DON'T WAIT, THE END'S TOO NEAR
SOME PEOPLE NEVER LEARN
YOU ALL WON'T FALL, THE ROAD FEVER CALLS
SO RUN OR FLY
DON'T CRAWL

YOU'VE GOT TO
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
FEEL THE FLAMES BURN INSIDE
AND THOUGH YOU KNOW
YOU RIDE TO HIDE
YOU RIDE TO LIVE TO RIDE

RIDE ON AND DON'T LOOK BACK,
YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHAT'S DONE
DRIVE HARD FOR GREATER GLORIES
YOU ALL MUST BE SOMEONE
SO WIN, DON'T SHOW
LET THE LIFE FEVER GO
THE WORLD IS YOURS YOU KNOW

YOU'VE GOT TO
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
FEEL THE FLAMES BURN INSIDE
AND THOUGH YOU KNOW
YOU RIDE TO HIDE
YOU RIDE TO LIVE TO
RIDE TO LIVE, LIVE TO RIDE
FEEL THE FLAMES BURN INSIDE
AND THOUGH YOU KNOW
YOU RIDE TO HIDE,
YOU RIDE TO LIVE TO RIDE

I finally came up with one that gets into my head a lot (I remembered while riding this morning, go figure):

"Turn the Page" by Bob Seger. Not sure why. Sometimes I change the lyrics slightly to match my current situation:

"On a long and lonesome highway, West of Louisville, I can listen to the valves tapping out their one lone song..." :groovy

Must be GSers...

It's just a jump to the left...

You've never really heard "Time Warp" unless you've heard it sung around a campfire by some BMW riders. It's extra entertaining when they dance, as well. DAMHIK. :nyah

I want to see that:wave :buds :buds :buds :sick

Numerous times while on long interstate stretches I find myself singing Cake...Wheels

My other "helmet karaoke" favorite is Iggy Pop's Corruption.

My absolute motorcycling favorite is Metallica Wherever I May Roam
Is there anyone here that can read the following lyrics and say that they weren't written just for us? I didn't think so.

And the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
So in her I do confide
And she keeps me satisfied
Gives me all I need

And with dust in throat I crave
Only knowledge will I save
To the game you stay a slave

Roamer, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
Free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

(And the earth becomes my throne)

And the earth becomes my throne
I adapt to the unknown
Under wandering stars I've grown
By myself but not alone
I ask no one

And my ties are severed clean
Less I have the more I gain
Off the beaten path I reign

Roamer, wanderer
Nomad, vagabond
Call me what you will

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll never mind anywhere

Anywhere may I roam
Where I lay my head is home

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind
And I'll take my find anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home
I say!

But I'll take my time anywhere
I'm free to speak my mind anywhere
And I'll redefine anywhere

Anywhere I may roam
Where I lay my head is home

Carved upon my stone
My body lies, but still I roam,
Yeah yeah!

Wherever I may roam
Wherever I may roam
Woah

songs in the head

a few come to mind 500 miles, all the service songs, wild blue yonder is my favorite but the marine corp hymn isn't far behind. but my favorite thing to do is make up songs as I ride along. The possibilities are endless.

Sung to the tune of "Ghost riders in the Sky"

He rode in hard, from East to West
He knew he was the best.
He was making time, and feeling fine
The beemer past the test

he knew no one could catch him
he always rode alone
he is a beemer rider
and he always rides alone

Yippee Kiyay, Yipee Kiyo
Lone Beemer rider
always rides alone

I bet I made up 50 verses on my trip out west this summer. Some got pretty racy and are not for this forum. Maybe I'll post them on Advrider.:bolt

Humming along

Okay, so he hears "Time Warp", but while I'm checking out the view I hear:

Rush's :

Ghost Rider

"..... Sunrise in the mirror
Lightens that invisible load
Riding on a nameless quest
Haunting that wilderness road
Like a ghost rider.......

......Sunrise on the road behind
Sunset on the road ahead
There's nothing to stop you now...."

Or
Driven

"...Driven in-- Driven to the edge
Driven out-- On the thin edge of the world
Driven off-- By things I've never seen
Driven on-- By the roads to somewhere I've never been...

....The road unwinds towards me
What was there is gone
The road unwinds before me
And I go riding on...."

but now thanx to that post next time we ride I'll be hearing Tim Curry singing.

I guess I'm not as cool as some of you guys. I can never remember the lyrics of the newer songs. sigh.

What I am seeing usually triggers an old song. I'm with Fritz on the Patriotic thing. There is nothing like crossing the Great State of Washington, see those amber waves of grain under the purple mountain's majesty to keep that song recycling over and over........

"All the Gold in California..."
"Rocky Mountain High"
"Georgia on my Mind"

Or - when I did my 48-State Blitz a few weeks ago, I stayed in the Cinderella Motel in Hollister, California and woke up singing Bippidy Boppidy Boo for the first 150 miles. (MAKE IT STOP!!!!!!!!!!!) :banghead

i may be going to hell in a bucket
but at least i'm enjoying the ride

So, I'm sitting at a red light singing away (with my ear buds in and the ipod turned up) and I look over at the guy next to me and he's shaking his head with a sh*t eating grin. I hit the pause button and ask him "what"?. He says "dude you can't sing at all". I explained to him that I only had one feeling left and I was saving it for a special occasion.:nyah

I guess the thread was "to yourself". Could be I should practice that.

If you go to the MOA open house, you'll have to request it. TOTALLY worthwhile. Bring money, as well. :D

No money necessary. All you have to do is say, "It's astounding..."

That usually sends me into a 10 minute or longer routine full of jumping, stepping and the like.:twirl

And you, Mr. Metzger, are going to do the Time Warp the next time I see you around a campfire. :brow No Rocky Horror snobbery is allowed!

Wow - no one has mentioned Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild"... Must be a "Harley Only" song.

I know I'll be laughed at, but the trouble I have when I run songs through my head or through my iPod while riding is that I always end up subconsciously moving my body to the music. I don't even want to think about how ridiculous this looks to my fellow motorists as I ride the slab through rush-hour.

Give me a wide open road without traffic or LEOs and I'll have the bike dancing, too.

I'm a live music, jam-band guy, so when I am listening, it's always the Dead, Phish, String Cheese Incident, Dave Matthews Band, Yonder Mountain String Band, Umphries McGee, etc. etc. I especially love listening to shows I've been to, and reminiscing about the fun times I've had in my life thanks to great live music.

Wagner--"Ride of the Valkerie". Theme from "Appocolypse Now". Always do it on the start of a morning trip ride to the west. Swoop down out of the rising
sun and assume attack formation.

(Paraphrasing in my best Robert Duval impression)

"I love the smell of burning oil in the morning - it smells like - worn rings on a boxer."

I'm getting my dancing shoes all ready to go. :brow I also do one heck of a "Lindy", although sometimes people seem to think I'm having a seizure. :D
