What about the RNineT?

I had a R80GS new in 81-82 and just recently got a used 03 R1150R. I was thinking about a new GS but $$$$ so because I'm liking the semi crotch rocket ride of the R I'm thinking about a 9T?
Only know what I've read but wondered about weather anyone out there who has one and can give me some advice.
It will be a toss up between that and a Ducati monster. With these choices I'll save 5-7 thousand dollars and will be happy with either choice I'm sure!
Wasn't sure if this thread goes here as I don't see a general discussion forum?

Had the ECU updated on my 1600gt at long beach bmw this week
Sitting their was a R nine T, with a SOLD sticker, my favorite sales gal, said sold out, I'am now on the list for a January delivery, perfect around town cruiser
FYI keeping 1600 for serious riding

Hey T6, I sat on one at Browns Motor works last week in pomona. It is /was for sale.

Just picked mine up last week! :heart

It was delivered so I haven't ridden it yet. Got the aluminum hump, tank bag and rear support removal kit.

Cain't wait to ride it.

Had mine since July. Great around town and short haul ride! Given the lack of fairing (which I like) and low seat I find my daily limit at ~250 miles. Keeping the GSA so this isn't an issue. Only complaint I had was the appearance of the tail piece and plate bracket so those went away the first week leaving more of a street fighter look.

Monday was nice so I rode for about 130 miles. I couldn't be happier. It handles great, it's comfortable, and it's easy for me to get a leg over saddle.

+1 on the forks question. How does it feel, in direct comparison to a telelever or duolever? I read at least one review where the reviewer complained about the anachronistic (my word, not his) diving action when braking. But fork travel is quite a bit shorter, so maybe it's not so bad? How much less comfortable than a GS?

Ok, so how do the forks compare to the Telelever?

Inquiring minds want to know. :ear

If you are used to the telever then the standard forks will definitely be different. My second bike is a Triumph Scrambler so I thought I would be used to standard forks on the nineT. However, when riding the nineT, the first time that I put on the brakes and felt the nose dive a little I was mildly shocked. A ride around the block and all was well. By the way, the S1000RR uses the same forks.

Despite the common drivetrain there's no way to compare my GSA and 9T as apples to apples - ergonomics, suspension travel and steering geometry are all very different. If I fixate on it I can say the forks provide more feedback and when combined with the rear suspension the ride is just "choppier" than the GSA. Otherwise they both just feel like riding a motorcycle and either machine puts a big smile on my face! ;)

I have a shop full, new and old

I picked up an Are 9Tee back in March, haven't ridden it a whole lot because I was in the middle of building my shop. I've got that mostly done and have moved the herd out there and have started to get out on the bikes a little more often than never. I have the Triumph Scrambler, Thruxton and Bonni as well as an oilhead GSA and a bunch of other BMW's but I got to tell ya standing still on the "Tee" it feels a lot like my '69 R 60US or even the '65 R 69S, going down the road it still feels like that but with a lot more "Giddi-up", more WOE and I mean WOE and when I hit a bump in the road or a not flat spot I glide right through without a bounce or wobble. So much un-like my /2's.
Conclusion: Its just like a /2 with Horsepower, Brakes and suspension.

+1 to everything that you say.

I DO get a bounce when I hit a bump. I haven't gotten my rear suspension dialed in yet. It's too stiff.

You are absolutely right about the power and the brakes. I read that the R nineT is geared lower than a R1200R and you certainly can feel it. The R nineT has a lot of "grunt" when you are leaving a stoplight.
