Warranty Authorization Set By Dealer

Good day. I have a question about the manufacturer warranty for a bike I purchased in July 2021. A week ago I dropped off my bike for servicing and a front end shake thats been happening since mile 4000. The dealership confirmed the bike was still under the original manufacturer warranty. I asked them to reach out to BMW once they determined the problem to see if it was covered under the warranty before conducting any additional work. They agreed. A few days later they called to inform me they identified the problem. I asked what BMW said wrt warranty coverage and the service tech said BMW declined the warranty request because the shaking (front end becoming loose) was considered wear and tear.

I called BMW of North America with the intent of getting additional information on why they declined a warranty request. I’m fine with the price the dealership quoted, but wanted to educate myself further. The BMW NA rep said each BMW dealership has an in-house post sales team which decides whether an item is or is not covered by the manufacturer warranty. Granted it’s been years since I haven’t performed my own servicing, I was still surprised to hear this. The rep recommended I reach out to the local dealership for details on how they arrived at the conclusion.

Had I known this in advanced I would have asked a few more questions.

So what did dealer drtermine the front end shake was from?

The dealership said it was a loose stearing head and added the adjustment is a maintenance item not covered by the warranty.

I’m glad they identified it. To me it was a mix between warped rotors and feeling like there was something loose in the front end. Very pronounced vibration when grabbing the brakes at highway speed for a quick stop. At slow speeds, while approaching a stop, the front brakes pulsated while maintaining the brake at a set level. As in not changing the pressure to the brake. This threw me off a few times because I’d set my feet down prepared to stop but for a split second the caliper would not grab and I’d roll forward again before the brakes grabbed again.
