I don't believe this has been posted. If so, sorry for duplication.

Listening to the publlc radio station this morning (WHQR, Wilmington, NC) and hear Vince Winkel introduced as the new local news reporter for the station.

Went online to find the following text announcing the same

"Vince Winkel joined the WHQR news team in March, 2017. He had previously been covering business and economics for the Greater Wilmington Business Journal.

Vince began his career in public broadcasting with Monitor Radio in 1985, during which times his work received reporting awards from the Overseas Press Club of America, International Radio Festival of New York (Gold Medal), Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi, Gabriel Award: Best Feature-National Release, National Federation of Community Broadcasters, Colorado Press Association, Associated Press Television Association of California and others.

During his previous time in public radio he also was a contributor to Living on Earth, SoundPrint, Only a Game, Southern California Public Radio, Marketplace and the BBC.

Vince also helped launch Public Interactive, working with PBS and NPR stations across the country in developing content and publishing tools for station websites.

During an eight year break from radio, Vince was media director for BMW Motorcycles, managing their publications and digital media.

You’ll usually see Vince on a grey BMW motorcycle with WHQR decals, all over Wilmington"

And a more detailed article from WHQR which broadcasts on 2 frequencies - one a news/talk format where most of Vince's work will be heard and the other a classical music format.

"WHQR Public Radio is pleased to announce that Vince Winkel has been hired as a full-time Reporter, joining the staff of the HQR News team. Winkel started on March 2nd.

Winkel’s position will focus on local news content, primarily material for use in Morning Edition, All Things Considered, with corresponding links to web stories and podcasts. Under the supervision of News Director Rachel Lewis Hilburn, Winkel will follow News Department policy in light of the station’s overall mission, and produce offerings that reflect the standards of audio production, journalistic ethics and public service using NPR’s best practices as a model.

Winkel joins WHQR after positions at the Greater Wilmington Business Journal and the Denver Post, Boulder Daily Camera and the Christian Science Monitor. He has extensive experience with public radio network programs such as MarketPlace, Weekend America and Monitor Radio.

Rachel Lewis Hilburn says “After taking the leap and investing news department resources in CoastLine, our twice-weekly public affairs show, this is the next logical -- and exciting -- step in the growth of our local and regional news coverage."

Station Manager Cleve Callison said “I’m very pleased to welcome Vince as the third member of our award-winning news team. Together with our in-depth talk show CoastLine, Vince’s local reports in our newsmagazines will give us unparalleled news service to our listening audience throughout the region."WHQR Public Radio, broadcasting from Wilmington, serves southeastern North Carolina and northeastern South Carolina with HQR News at 91.3fm and Classical HQR at 96.7fm. WHQR offers news, music, entertainment and interaction to expand knowledge, encourage artistic appreciation, engage our community and promote civil discourse."

I have missed a few of our local club events lately so don't know if I've missed a chance to see Vince at one.

I hope Vince survives the "zeroing" of the budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Way to go Vince!

He was always a hoot at the Contributors Dinner at MOA National Rallies. :thumb

He also treated me fairly when I worked under him for the ON.

Glad he landed on his feet. :dance
