upgrading fuel injectors for R11's?

has anyone successfully upgraded injectors from an old style single hole to three or four hole newer style?
as long as flow rates and impedance line up(in addition to )size, should be an easy upgrade for better performance/smoother running...

Thought I'd read someone on here had luck with a Volvo or earlier BMW automotive injector as a modern upgrade...
