Travel Size Cooler Bag

Has anyone found a good cooler bag for traveling? My thought is to use it while riding to keep the water in a hydropack/bladder bag cool while riding, then use it at my campground as a cooler for beer, etc .

Best bet is to fill the bladder with ice at a "7 Eleven" or other store with a soda fountain and ice machine, then add water.

If sleeping at hotels, use the ice machine there.

That's about the only way to keep a bladder cold. As for beer at a destination, only buy enough for the evening...

We carry a water-jug that has a lid big enough to put ice cubes in.
It keeps the water cold all day.
You can't get at it while riding but we try to remember to take a drink each time we stop.
We have a water bottle sling if we want to carry the jug with us.

It's all about priorities. Bring the spouse or a tasty supply of ice cold liquid refreshment. That's a choice each person has to make for themselves.

I sometimes ride with a 4 litre Coleman litre strapped to the passenger peg on my bikes, usually half filled with ice and half with water. You could do something similar, completely filled with ice.

Since my last trip a couple of years ago with this setup, I would now only travel with the cooler half filed for two reasons. First, the cooler keeps the water cool for two days and I can't drink the cooler dry in one day, no matter how hot it might be. More importantly, with my R1100, I have discovered that with the cooler filled, it causes additional wear on the right side of the tire.

I wish to avoid the second scenario in the future.

Check out the Ice Mule - it's an insulated roll top bag that allows you to adjust the size of the cooler easily. I like it because it doesn't take up too much space, holds a decent amount of beverages/ice for a weekend, doesn't leak, and can become another dry bag for all your rally prizes if needed. Seems like you could easily run a longer tube out of the roll top while riding.
