Tank Bag for 16' R1200GS that sits on slope of tank

Hello All,
My vertically challenged self is looking for a tank bag that rests more on the slope of the tank. I noticed the older small BMW tank bags seemed to do this or the tanks just didn't have as steep a slope--can't tell. I have about a 5" bag height limit which restricts volume so was hoping to find a bag that rests more on the slope of the tank. I have tried Google image and forum searches but was unable to find something. Any suggestions?

TIA

if you use a strap on bag, you can adjust the placement by lengthening the forward straps to place where is best for you.
This SW Motech Trail bag may be too tall for you, but you can see the strategy:

I use a Mosko Moto Nomad now named Nomax which I swap between 4 bikes. I find it sits very well on the slope of my 640 and 525 and is great on my R65 and R1100. I've been very happy with mine, it follows me everywhere.

High and tight on the 640 it does not intrude for standing up on the pegs etc.

Sits nicely on the 1100.

Well put on the R65.

No good pics on the 525 right now.

The GS tank bag for the Wethead GS comes in two sizes.
The small may work for you.

Hey Skibum69. I was considering the Mosko as I have their panniers, Scout duffle on the way and will get the Backcountry duffle when it is back in stock. My only challenge with it is that the Nomax is tall, about half an inch too high...but then if I adjust like @hndymn suggested I should be able to move it forward some.

One of the things I like about Mosko's bag is the hydration bladder. Does it expand the tank bag's height when it is full?

TIA

I've been a happy RKA Shiloh user for 12 years and 2 GS's and couldn't be happier. It fits the tank slope nicely. They had a nice booth at the Great Falls rally.

Hello RGuy,
Which one do you have? Do you a picture of it on the tank slope?

Thanks,

It's the Shiloh 13L version
3 straps, two in front and one in rear.

I don't have a pic handy but my friend Google has bunches.
Thanks! I went through multiple pages of Google images with various search terms and couldn't find one with the tank bag on the sloped part of the tank instead of the top part near the tank opening. Seems like a great bag. With some velcro I could add a separate section for a hydration bladder and route the tube through one of the two cord openings.

The only problems I have with this bag are:
1. No easy off access with some sort of carrying around backpack or shoulder sling strapping. This I am actually surprised about. At least provide D rings or buckles and have it as an optional accessory. But then again many folks may not be looking for this. I'm looking for something that can replace the fanny pack I use as a small purse. This is a well thought out bag by Richard. Especially with the color customization option... He almost had me right there, but there was no pink option. [emoji1787] [emoji1787] [emoji1787]

2. The rain cover appears to be the same size as the fully expanded pack. I couldn't find images, descriptions,or YouTube videos that explain what to do when you need the rain cover and the pack isn't fully expanded. I would think you would have excess flapping in the wind? But correct me if I am wrong.

The bag has 3 snap buckles - one on each strap next to the bag. Takes about 15 seconds to unsnap them and set the bag on the seat in order to fill the gas tank. I sometimes put a Camelbak bladder in the bottom of the bag and run the tube out the zipper. I rarely expand the bag. My rain cover fits over the unexpanded bag. The new ones may be different. I suppose you could make some straps that fit the buckles and make a sling for it. It does have a small carry handle and a pouch on the rear. It is handy for carrying into the hotel. I use a fanny pack and toss it in the tank bag when riding. The bag usually stays on the bike and the fanny pack goes with me.

Forgive the OT, but I like this idea of putting a bladder in the tank bag. I just rode cross-country with a large bag and tent on my seat so no way to fit my camelbak on my back. Instead, I bungee’d it on top of my tent which exposed it to the sun. Thinking now of putting a 1 liter bladder in the tank bag; filled with ice, it’ll also help keep my phone, back up battery, etc. cool as I ride. (After riding across Nevada on US 50, I learned to position my phone on its side instead of flat where it heated quickly to at least 400 degrees C.) :)

The rain cover for the Lomax works just fine and you can see your Map through the window, it lives in a little zip pocket in the front that's very easy to access. As for height I don't find the height at all an issue, as I said it's out of the way when standing. You can see in the pics that it tapers down toward the back to give more room. Part of it is getting it as far forward as you can when you mount it. To add gas I just pop the front 2 buckles and slide the bag back, easy peasy. I too really like the hydration bag there, I find it super easy to use if I'm not carrying water in the hydration bag on my jacket. I can take a pic of how I leave that set up if you like? As for height I don't see it adding much. On the redesigned Nomax they have the bag pocket zipper on the top now instead of the bottom. When they first designed it the bottom pocket was set up to either hold the hydration bladder or be a gun pocket for those who wanted it. I think the gun discussion went out the window on the redesign.
