Scooters: Rarely a comment…

It’s been eight months since post in this segment thought one needed to be made. My brother finally sold his 400GT. At age 87 finally convinced him it might be unsafe given his lessening skills. Getting old isn’t fun but as we know beats the alternative.

I'll add to the scooter fun here. I really like my C400GT and use it for commuting a few days per week. Not sure why it isn't more popular because it's actually very practical aside from service.

The biggest drawback is maintenance cost and BMW's decision to not provide service manuals for them which makes it a costly commuting option when doing 8-10k miles per year. With the 12k service cost close to $2k, it negates a lot of it's practicality and makes it a very niche option.

Returning to MOA, downsized to C400GT from a Thumper

Yeah, I thought there would be more action here too. There are plenty of these scooters on the road. Maybe people are just shy about not having a bigger “real” m/c. Feels pretty real to me in corners and at interstate speeds. The laws of physics don’t discriminate. Centrifugal force, gravity, friction.. Nothing to be shy about.

I had a great time with the Thumper and met some really nice folks here who enjoyed riding in my neck of the (Vermont) woods. It would be nice to continue in that theme, despite trading in my clutch for a Medicare card.
