Savannah Rally 2010

The Savannah Rally is ready to go.
Date: December 3, 4, 5, 2010.

The Low Country Boil will be Saturday about 6 or 7pm.
Location: the gym, about 10 blocks north of the motel.
Price will be about $20 per person, depending on the price of shrimp.

We're going to try and plan a ride this year, but our local riders don't get
real excited about riding the flat roads to and from the beach so it might
not come off. But Savannah is a historic city so there's plenty to see and
do.

If you're out Saturday and want to see live alligators and grab some lunch

I'm smelling the shrimp starting to boil.

Now it's up to you Jerry to appease the weather Gods and keep the snow & ice out of Western North Carolina.

Say someone did want to take a little jaunt from Tybee on Saturday morning - what would be an interesting destination & pleasant route for 150 miles or so?

An outstanding scenic destination, or something historic or weird would be of interest.

Mapquest Savannah and find US17 South.
When you get Eulonia, take GA 99 east.
It makes a nice easterly loop that parallels US 17.
When you get to Darien (also on US 17), check out Fort King George:

For sandwiches: The Purple Pickle, 102 Screven Street, Darien, GA 31305

For the return trip, you can reverse your route or go to the north side of Darien and take GA 251 north.
Where it crosses I-95 there's an outlet mall and BBQ restaurant:
Smokey Joes BBQ, 7 frontage rd. hwy 251, Darien, GA 31305
Stay on GA 251 until it intersects with GA 57, take a right and go east.
You have a choice, you can jump on I-95 north and head back to Savannah or you can stay on GA 57 until it intersects with US 17 in Eulonia, then go north to Savannah.

Keep in mind, Savannah's not known for it's curves....

My first Savanna Rally and it was well worth the trip. Met many BMW riders and one individual that drove down from Columbus, OH as it was snowing pretty hard when he left. The food and camaraderie were great. Tybee Island held a Christmas parade on Saturday and Fort Pulaski was a short 10>15 minute ride from the motel. The fort was initially held by the CSA but fell in a 30hr barrage to Union forces using new rifled barrel Parrot cannons that could penetrate 7' thick masonry walls with relative ease. Period muskets from the Civil War and two cannons (a smooth bore and a rifled barrel Parrot) are fired three times a day. The smell of black powder is unmistakable and the white cloud of smoke very impressive. Lots of Seafood and refreshing beverages were within walking distance of the Dunes Inn. Ride Safe

Four of us rode down from the North Carolina mountains. We rolled into Darien Saturday for lunch. The scene was a bit like Hollister,California circa 1947 (except for the booze, burnouts, and street racing).

There were enough Jerrys there to start a band. Paul and I had a very quick trip back; the police we saw were not in the east bit interested in stopping tow quick bikes. By the time we hit Charleston, the warm weather had ended. I saw that a few of our riders from Asheville had a white surprise waiting for them.

Jerry Duke, thanks for all the work and for being such a good roomie. The food was incredible and the people were top drawer.
