Routing front brake cable

Hi all, I replaced the front brake cable on my /5. I have low bars. I had a long cable before so it routed differently (on the right of the headlight). The short cable - according to Duane Ausherman - should be routed to the left of the headlight - but not sure if it goes in front of the lower triple clamp or not. I have it going behind but it looks like it could hang up on the fork lock. I've googled images but it's hard to tell where it should go.

thanks Chuck

Chuck -

I suppose there is a "factory" or concours routing, but in the end you just need a path that is smooth and doesn't put any strain on the cable when the bars are turned stop-to-stop. That would be my suggestion.

Thanks Kurt, I did some more image searches and most show the cable in front. So I re-routed it in front of the clamp and it seems to work better. Thanks C

Hi - a quick follow up - I am 99.9% certain the short bar brake cable routes in front of the lower triple clamp (and to the left of the headlight) as there is a clip that perfectly fits the rubber grommet on the cable at exactly where the cable 'want's' to go. And there is not one on the other side. I thought that clamp was for the wiring but it didn't make sense that there was only 1 clip on one side only. that's it...

Hi Kurt, #6 is used for the high-bar brake cable - it attaches under the RIGHT top fork gator clamp, the grommet fits in there and locates the cable...The high bar cable routes along the right side of the headlamp bucket. I have that too (now off the bike) as my bike came with US high bars...I suspect that all the /5's had the left hand clip regardless of high or low bars.

thanks C
