Ride Modes Issue

My 2017 GS just started acting weird. It will not change ride modes (Enduro Pro to Rain, etc.) until I come to complete stop. It used to let me change when I shifted, or when I didn't touch the throttle for a while (as per the manual) but it now won't change until I come to a complete stop and then roll on the throttle.

Any ideas on what could be wrong?

On my 2018GS the mode change is instantaneous if I hit the mode button until the desired mode is highlighted then do a slight momentary roll off of throttle. Have you tried that?

LOL! OK - it was "pilot error". I just got back from the Two Day Off Road course at BMW US Rider Academy and was covering the brake and clutch (which I am used to doing on my Enduro bike, but didn't do on the GS before the course). So, I had two fingers around the left grip which stopped the lever from coming all the way to the grip. I guess the switch needs the lever to touch the grip, because when I moved the fingers and pulled the lever all the way in to the grip the ride modes change.

So, it's good that I understand now what's going on - but it'd be nice if there was someway to adjust that switch to allow ride modes to change even when I have the clutch covered. I tried playing with the 1-2-3-4 knob on the clutch lever, but it didn't seem to make any difference to how the switch operated.

It happens. I have some sort of “info” button (that I don’t bother with) on the F800GS and one time I noticed the display had changed.
Turns out I had hung my helmet on the button and it was kinda stuck down. A bit of messing with it and it was back to functioning.

It's a double switch used to deactivate the cruise control and allow starting the bike while in gear. I wouldn't play with it.
It failed on my RT. Finding neutral when you're stalled in traffic isn't fun.

OR

You could simply remove your fingers from the grip when you're changing modes on the move. As already pointed out, there are reasons the switches attached to the clutch lever operate as they do.
