I need help. Had a light crash and i need to replace the headlight unit and upper fairing on my 97 r1100rt but can't figure out how to get it apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Where are you stuck at? Do you have a Factory Service Manual? Give me some details and I'll be glad to help. I have not been here long, but I know my RT.

I did get the headlight unit and upper fairing removed but i am wondering if the tab on the fairing stay that is located on the lower right part as you stand in front of the bike is supposed to be square with the stay. I don't have a manual but from my past experiences with other bikes they usually aren't detailed enough to give me the answer.

Can you post a pic of what your talking about. I'm having trouble visualizing it.

I you have to remove the lower portion of the fairing before removing the upper. I had to get at headlight as well and was freakin' out because I had taken every screw I could find out of the upper fearing and it still wouldn't budge. Turns out, once I removed them in the proper order it was relatively easy. After you get it on and off once it isn't that bad but it is quite a job just to get at the headlight. Pain in the ass is what it is but once the mystery is solved it a straight forward job.
