Removing Right Upper fairing

Hello,
Is it possible to remove the right upper "cheek" of the RT fairing without trmoving the rest of the fairing? I need to replace that Piece and would prefer to just pull the one piece down if possible.

Also, the dash portion where the windshield bolts up has a bunch of brass sleeves that are flared on the inside and outside. These go through the upper edge of the fairing. How do I get them out without destroying the Fiberglass or the sleeves or plastic dash piece?

Drill those hollow rivets out carefully.

Note that separating the rubber gasket from the windshield will ruin the gasket, so perhaps wait until you can pull gasket out from between dashboard and fairing--this will be very awkward and perhaps not worth it. I'm not in fact sure the windshield can be "folded" forward enough to provide clearance for your drill when removing the rivets. The holes in the gasket through which the rivets pass are NOT slotted.

The next biggest hassle will be separating the upper from the center section around the fork leg. It's more likely this piece must be moved away from the upper rather than vice versa, meaning detaching the fork boots. When moving this piece, you slide the grommets down onto the brake hoses and then the brake pipes come out through the slots in the fiberglass--no need to break open the brake system.

I've recently removed our entire RT fairing and then separated the sections, but don't see why you can't separate the right top in place. It's going to be a little tough working around the headlight to get some of the screws out, but you can probably do it. Pretty sure you can't remove headlight with fairing in place.

Nevertheless the official service manual says remove entire fairing from bike and take to bench to separate a side section. I think the factory way will prove simpler in the long run and might question what can be saved in attempting your proposal.

BMW special tool 00 9 500 is required to install new tubular rivets (no subsitutes feasible) to secure dash and windshield gasket to fairing and it's a $90 tool and perhaps you can borrow one from your local BMW club or dealer.

Thanx for the info. I don't have a windshield Gasket because I have another dash on top of the BMW dash for my Parabellum Windshield. You can't see any of these rivets once that Dash is installed. The Parabellum mounts to it. So my question is, Do I need to replace these Rivets?

Not true. There is a less expensive way to install the rivets. Ted Witting has an article on how to do it. It worked great earlier this year when I replaced the dash on my RT. The only problem I had was in drilling out the old rivets. They had a tendency to spin. I used a Phillips screwdriver to hold them in place.

The BMW dashboard plays a significant role in holding the three sections of the fairing together.
