R90S throttle cable routing

I'm replacing the throttle cables and the nipples on the carb tops (apparently the curved tubes have been discontinued for safety issues; now they tell me). I routed the cables the same way as the ones that were on the bike -- both around the steering head on the right side. The left cable has no slack with the bars turned to the left. I take it, the left cable should be routed to the left of the steering head, but I thought I would check with collected knowledge available here.

There's a good pic on page 1, chapter 1, in Clymers manual. My '74 90S has always had both cables running through upper bracket/rubber grommet up top, down the right side of stem, splitting off to their respective sides. Always slip on a rubber covering where it seems likely to chaf, in this case, on the frame gusset. Don't know if this is correct as this bike, I think, was very messed with by PO.

Here's what the instrument bracket/grommet looks like, both passing through same hole, again, don't know if all airheads use this hole.

I leave the cables as loose as possible, here's the left side behind the starter relay, and covered where it may rub the tank bottom etc. Gotta mess around a little to see if binding at full lock can be eliminated.

And the right side, again covered against chafing. No kinkage/crinkage from behind volt-regulator. Don't know if this is correct, been this way a long time.
