HI, I'm not exactly a new member but probably have never posted before. I've been riding BMW since the mid '80s but tend to spend more free time riding than reading about them.
One of my bikes, an R60/2, is currently in project phase as I determine whether to just rebuild the engine or restore the whole thing. It's low miles but old and needs some care.
The rear main bearing fits a bit loose on the crank and the cam has a bit of wear on it so I'd like to have them both chromed and resurfaced and the crank retrued. Neither needs much work but I'd like to have the engine as pristine as possible so I can ride the bike the way one rides BMW's.
So, who has experience with the shops that provide crank and cam restoration? Are any better than others? Would it be prudent to upgrade invisible bits like bearings and seals?
My bike is all original, fairly low miles, all matching numbers, etc, but I'm more interested in riding it than preserving it strictly for Guggenheim if they ever wanted another one for their collection.
