Praise for Max BMW Motorcycles

bmwdean

BMW MOA co-founder
Max Stratton, Max BMW Motorcycles, ran a service tent at the rally this year and did a great job.

He got and installed for me a new right lever arm for my R1200RT's windshield. A minor thing, in a way, but he applied himself and got the necessary part, which is not normally stocked.

Thanks, Max, for all you did and are doing. Here he is, right:

I agree, I realized I forgot to pack oil and went over to the tent, I was expecting to pay through the nose for purchasing it at the rally. It was the same price as always.

Also the chandeliers in the tent was a nice touch!

Thanks Max BMW

And Max BMW sponsored the Friday GS ride. It was lead by great leaders on the their burly HP's, and Max provided lunch for the 60 riders!
They were a great addition to the rally. I'll be sending my beemer bucks his way!!

Oh, defintiely a hearty thanks for that GS ride.. that was a BLAST.

I did have one teeny tiny suggestion for it if he or anyone is reading it :=) Next time, park someone with a digital camera at the gnarly sections for good shots :)

But DAMN that was fun! Whooooooohoooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!

Guess someone has to have a different perspective...I went to the Max BMW tent to ask about the Remus exhaust and was convinced by the Remus gentleman that my R1200RT would benifit, ( and I as rider would also benifit :), from the 'full conversion' ( $1,100.00 ). So the workorder was completed and we went over to the 'service' counter together where the installation was agreed would begin as soon as my bike appeared at the tent. That took me 15 min. I waited, wandered, and wondered, 3 hrs later when they would begin, 'right away'. At 5:30 I asked one of the mechanics when they quit and he said just as soon as he could clean up, like in 5 min. No one else around to ask so I recovered my key and bike to go back to my humble logings ( behind the Gonzo Guys...) next day when I came by the same mechanic said probaby not today, Friday, come back tomorrow. I left tomorrow in the rain, no Remus.

Did you ask Max what happened??

Jim,

I can understand your frustration but would like to offer a different view.

Max's priority is always getting a broken bike back on the road as soon as possible. He was over run with machines that would not get their riders home. I visited his tent this morning and he told me he had rented a U-Haul to take 15 broken bikes back to his shop for immediate service. He introduced me to a guy who was number 16 and asked me if there was any way to get his bike south; it is in the back of my truck.

I am willing to wager that if you contacted him after he has had a chance to get some sleep you will find satisfaction.

Max had more lifts and diagnostic computers than any dealer within 200 miles of the rally site. For this I offer up a big tip of the keyboard.

Best,

Couldn't #16 have gone over to Frank's?

Oh, yeah...Frank's.....

Loved seeing that Max BMW insignia on the map in Essex!

That's a shame and you really should have taken the time to ask for Max directly and explained what was happening. I am sure he would have made it right, he always does.

One of his staff told me that he stayed up all nite on Fri nite working on bikes while he send his whole staff back to the hotel to rest. At 5:30am he left and went back to the hotel to shower and came right back to the rally with no sleep at all.

That's dedication in my book.

Shame you fell through the cracks, but you should have tried to resolve it there rather than storming off. Everytime I was in that tent, it was jamming.

Go Max!
I needed a new ignition switch for my 86 R65. They had it there the next day for me. Would have been there later that same day, but one of their delivery trucks had just left for the rally when I was there asking for the part. I thought they were absolutely great--especially considering the endless stream of people with problems.. in the heat... and the rain.

w/ a happy R65 again

I went by their stand/dealership on a few occaisions during the rally. I was quite impressed by their set-up. The level of dedication to Riders and their bikes was examplary. Knowing they were there and would take stranded bikes first was kind of an insurance policy if anything were to go wrong!

The bar has been set to a higher level for the next rallies.

I for one will gladly shop for their items online.

To the rally organisers thanks for allowing them to come.

Hats off to Max, and all the guys. I broke a system case and they had a new one shipped to the rally in time for my ride home.

Thanks I needed that.

Yes I understood the priority was for folks in need of urgent repair and even commented to the service guy, ( I am new to Max's from a customer perspective ), who said "no problem have your bike here in 15 mins and we will have you done in an hour". I took him at his word even though as you say, "it was hopping" in that tent. AND HOT!!.

I have never met 'Max' and wasn't intoduced at that time...so had no idea which one he was...but I didn't 'storm off' or even 'sound off', it was obvious how busy they were, just disappointed they took the time to sell me, do the paper work, have me go to the far corner (running in the heat...) of the camping area, (Gonzo grounds), and wait around for 3-4hrs when they could have said, "sorry, just too busy, could we get to you at a later time"...type of thing. But as a Rally virgin I guess I learned how things go at these events.

By the way I really admire the dealership ( Max ) for his support of the marque and the riding community in his Troy area. I drove down from Canada for the Piederson presentation one Saturday in early May. That is what got me in the tent in the first place.

Excrement occurs

You have got to be kidding me.

...instead of HP in your face thinking........which were'nt owned by the rider's.

What I felt was a bunch of non-GS riders showing off like a bunch of rich brats on Daddy's (Max's) HPs leading a few inexperienced rider's to damage of their hard earned machine's. After all Max is here to make things right.

Please don't get angry at my observation's.

I am angry at your observations because your facts are just plain wrong. You are entitled to your opinion, but you might want to check some facts before making accusations.

#1. Those HP2s are not owned by Max. Doug Morrison (GS Chair) and Steve Mauk (Oil Change Chair) who led the GS ride both own those HP2s. They know how to ride well, whether on a GS Adventure, an HP2, or a street bike. These guys have made or are making payments on those bikes. If they break them, they pay to repair them. Steve is an employee of MAX BMW. Doug is not.

#2. MAX BMW sponsored the ride in so much as they offered the place to start, PAID FOR LUNCH, and finished at their tent. Max generally supports all of the organized GS rides in New England- and they're always a lot more difficult than this ride was. This ride was organized and LED by the MOA Rally GS Chair, not MAX BMW.

#3. If you really think that any GS ride coordinator is out to damage bikes (and possibly their riders) so that they can have their bikes fixed by the sponsoring dealership, you're mistaken. We all know that these bikes are expensive and that our aging bodies are not as forgiving as they once were. Broken bikes, broken bones (and worse) are a ride leaders worst nightmare. Don't want a broken bike or a broken bone? Pay attention and don't ride like an idiot.

#4. Whether you're on the road or on a trail, if you ride beyond your ability because you're following someone better than you and not riding your own ride, then you're to blame for whatever situation you put yourself into. You can make any excuse you like, but take some responsibility for yourself. Each one of the incidents on the ride was rider error and/or bad decision-making on the rider's part, pure and simple.

#5. That's just complete BS that there was no bailout on the ride. We were in Vermont and the Class 4 roads are short and not far from town roads which would have given you a really easy ride back to the rally site as soon as you reached a main road. This was a GS RIDE, not a GS SCHOOL. If you didn't know what you were doing, or if you were uncomfortable riding in a group of people that you didn't think knew what they were doing, you should have taken the first right and left the ride.

From another thread....

Is this some regional contest ? What matter's is it was a great product, service, event, and the Chair's did a great job. I was busy riding this time and did'nt attend the Rally so to say because Vermont isn't flat nor does that matter anyway. Great roads, and trails everyone was great in their own way. :lurk

I am curious how you can offer your observations on the GS ride when apparently you were not at the rally.

1. Ok, but kind of cowboy acting, and show off for the inexperienced, but not me ? Ownership ? I had a source that says differantly. Oh well lied to by BMW again dang ? Still a bunch of rich rider's showing off. Great rider thingy doesnt matter. You are representing something here, a product ? A service ? A dealer ? A Rally Chair ? An event ? I guess they left a bad taste in my mouth..............DUST ? LOL

2. Great, no problem there I know about New England GS rides but did the other's pounding their bike's ? 60 rider's jammed the gorge ? I had fun relax. My state's highway system is Class 4. LOL And we are not flat.

3. I know but for the inexperienced rider's the organizer's should have warned them. After all "Lets space out in the difficult sections" was told to everyone but did the organizer's enforce it ? Broken bike's who fixed them ? Burnt harnes, broken brake line, get a U-Haul ?

4. True, and my experience served me well. But if I get blind sided am I still at fault ? I guess it works for cell phone talking cager's ? I told you I had NO problem's getting through the event. I am a rider, I even pitch my tent with my gear on.

5. Hey now when I wanted to bail it would be much later it would have been a left. The first right was blocked by 57 bikes behind me. I wanted to see the full circus. Yes I said European GS Ride not school. Alps are not like Ohio ? Hey lets not drag me behind a sled here ?

STFU. You are all big boys and no one twisted your arm in going on the ride.
