I guess everyone here is afraid to stray from BMW filters. I use K&N oil filters with the welded hex nut. Tired of all those oil wrenches that slip or get wedged in and then its a mess trying to pry that old oily filter out of the cup.View attachment 78805
My late brother swore by the k&n until the nut broke off. Luckily I had a strap wrench to remove it. Luckily bike wasn’t an oil head.
Back to original subject:
I use a torque wrench now but b4 that I tightened my filter pretty much as tight as I could with my left hand (I’m right handed)at the center of the ratchet, not at the end of the handle for minimal leverage.
This worked for me for years with zero problems. Even on my oilhead’s recessed oil filters using the cup wrench. Not foolproof but it makes it harder to over-torque. Unless you’re Arnold Schwarzenegger.
