oil filler plug temperature gauge for R1100S

I thought I had seen an oil filler plug which doubled as an oil temp gauge but now I can't seem to find it anywhere. Has anyone seen this? Also, if the head is sitting so far out in the wind, will the oil temp be accurate, or will it read artificially low? Thanks

I don't think I've ever seen anything like that for an oilhead. I'm also having a difficult time imagining how the temp probe would make it past the valvetrain to reach the sump. I've seen them for the F650, but that's an entirely different beast.

cutaway. filler is on top of the left cylinder...oil is way down at the bottom (you can see the two funnel shaped pickups).

Dannyleo,
Your Oilhead is not a Harley. This is not phisicaly possible and the only way this could be accomplished whould be by installing a "T" fitting on your oil sender and installing a digital temp sending device. I have seen a post on the Pelican Bullitne Board that a few riders have succesfully installed a gauge for this purpose.

Cheers

Thanks for the Pelican Parts tip. There are a lot of suggestions there. I guess I must of been dreaming about the oil filler cap.

SUCH A GAUGE EXISTS FOR THE AIR COOLED OR OLDER "R" MODELS BUT THEY SCREW DIRECTLY INTO THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE HOUSING. THESE WILL NOT WORK ON THE OIL HEADS. SORRY.
