Nostalgia - two-strokes at Deal's Gap

I lusted for an RD 350 for years but never got one. I did get a toned-down bike, a Hodaka 100 cc "Road Toad." I briefly had a Yamaha 305 I guess it was. Back in my college days, two strokes were very popular.

I have been to that Deal's Gap resort and have ridden the Dragon on a BMW R1200GS.

Looks like fun, tho I’m not sure bringing back the hooliganism along with the bikes is a good idea. &#55357;&#56842;
I miss the two-smokers; their simplicity and power/weight ratios made motorcycling affordable and fun. The ‘76 RD400 I sold had self-canceling turn signals and some of the best and most controllable brakes I’d ever encountered. With reworked suspension on both ends it handled well, and could probably handle the 60hp claimed by the owner of the modded bike in the video. But the guy pushing 90hp through an H2 chassis is riding a watusi machine looking for a place to start dancing.

And yet, one test ride on the R80ST convinced me to jump ship-the ST handled as well but was much more comfortable for traveling, and I’ve never looked back. New or used, all my road bikes since have been BMWs.

Still, to paraphrase Robert Duvall, “I miss the smell of Gold Label Blendzall in the morning.”

Had a '70 H1 500, sold it in '73 to buy the 1st Z1 900 in S. Carolina. Rode an H2 750 once, scared the crap outta me!
