BMW GS Adventure Ride

In addition to our existing One and Two Day Motorcycle Rider Training Programs offered at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, S.C. ,BMW is proud to announce a new program ÔÇ£BMW GS Adventure Tours.ÔÇØ

Experience the beautiful back roads of the western CarolinaÔÇÖs and eastern Tennessee on a guided three day GS Adventure Ride with the instructors of BMW Motorcycle Rider Training. The GS Adventure Ride begins at the BMW Performance Center, in Greer SC, with a skills clinic preparing the riders for their
challenging adventure ahead. Over the course of three days, riders will explore parts of the Cherokee, Nantahala and Pisgah National Forests as well as the Great Smokey Mountains National Park while traversing some of the more renowned roads in the southeast such as DealÔÇÖs Gap ÔÇ£Tail of the DragonÔÇØ,
the Blue Ridge Parkway, Cherohala Skyway, ParsonÔÇÖs Branch and many of the lesser known ÔÇ£localÔÇØ favorites. The adventure will be a true dual sport ride continually moving from twisty paved roads to a combination of gravel, dirt and bedrock roads offering excitement to all skill level riders.

Day One:
Riders meet at the BMW Performance Center at 8 AM for a skills clinic ending mid morning before the group makes way along the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway, over CaesarÔÇÖs Head to the Pisgah National Forest for lunch in Brevard, NC. Forest service roads lead the group to the Blue Ridge Parkway
for a scenic journey to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park with a few gravel excursions along the way into Gatlinburg, TN with a ride on the Roaring Forks Motor Nature Trail. The day ends with a group dinner at a favorite local steak house.

Day Two:
An early 7 AM departure for the group begins a full day of riding through the Great Smokey Mountains National Park to Cades Cove down ParsonÔÇÖs Branch to the ÔÇ£Tail of the DragonÔÇØ. After a stop at the DealÔÇÖs Gap store for souvenirs the group will ride a combination of forest service roads and the Cherohala
Skyway to Tellico Plains TN for lunch along the river. The afternoon is filled with a mix of twisty paved and non-paved roads leading back to Franklin, NC for a relaxing dinner and story telling of the dayÔÇÖs adventure. A later 9 AM start allows for some extra rest following the previous days ride. The journey will take the
group over some of the ÔÇ£best kept secretÔÇØ roads, across Tanasee Gap and into Rosman for lunch at a local sandwich shop. Twisty roads lead the group into South Carolina to Paris Mountain overlooking Greenville and eventually back to the BMW Performance Center arriving at approximately 4 PM. The BMW GS Adventure Ride is an all inclusive fully supported ride. A support vehicle will transport luggage and provide any assistance necessary. All hotels, fuel and meals including snacks and drinks along the trip are included.
Instructors will cover on and off road skills and pertinent topics in the clinic as well as at various points along the journey. All skill levels are welcomed; riders should be prepared to ride 150-250 miles a day on mixed surfaces.
The three day BMW GS Adventure Ride cost $1995 with the use of a BMW Performance Center motorcycle. The cost would be $1695 should you choose to ride your own BMW. Motorcycles available are the R 1200 GS, F 800 GS and F 650 GS all equipped with appropriate dual sport tires. Tours start in May and run until mid October. Several BMW Performance Center on-site two day off road
training programs are being held as well creating the possibility of a combination five day school and adventure ride if you desire.

And to think. . .

I missed my calling, all these years teaching geology and physics and in my spare time riding motorcycles all through Colorado and Utah either on my GS or DR650 suzuki. Man, I could have got paid to lead tours. Too old now!
