BMW Portugal Motorrad has a sales increase to report for 2008. Good news for them and BMW but they seem to be giving a glimpse into a decline in the overall motorrad numbers in the range of 2% world wide.
4th consecutive record sales of the BMW Group in Portugal

For the fourth consecutive year, the BMW Group reached a new record in its overall sales of cars and motorcycles on national territory. In aggregate, sold 12,226 units last year, and BMW cars and motorcycles and MINI cars. Thus, in the overall BMW Group Portugal beat his previous record of 2,007 units in 1704, or a higher volume of vehicles sold by 16%, compared to last year.
BMW sold over 10,000 units in 2008 and reaches a market share of 4.7%
The BMW brand had a turnover of 10.6% higher than its previous record, ie 10,020 units against 9,062 recorded in 2007. This is the first time a premium brand beyond the barrier of 10,000 units sold per year in Portugal.
Ranking in the sales of the brand to operate in Canada, BMW retained the 9th position of the most sold. However, to emphasize that the BMW brand has achieved the highest market share ever with more than 0.21% last year, or 4.7% of the domestic market.
With this sales volume, the BMW brand increased its leadership in the premium segment, conquered and held since May 2005.
The main contributors to this excellent service are from the ranges of best selling models of BMW: BMW Series 3, Series 1 and Series 5.
For the BMW 3 Series (Sedan, Touring, coup?® and convertible), 3,922 units were sold, representing a growth of 3.8% compared to 2007.
With growth exceeding 50%, the 1 Series range played a vital role in the overall result of the mark, with 2,655 units sold the variants of 3 and 5-door, coup?® and convertible.
Keeping the outstanding leadership of the upper segment, the BMW 5 Series (Sedan and Touring) recorded 2,091 units sold. To highlight the model BMW 520d Sedan, while BMW sold more in Portugal with 898 units.
In cross-country vehicle, the BMW X3 has kept the leadership of the segment, achieved in 2005, with 495 units sold.
BMW Motorrad - the largest market share of the market for BMW motorcycles
In the market for motorcycles, BMW held a benefit most notable, with a sales volume higher than 6.5% for the year 2007, a result that earns even greater emphasis if we consider that the global market evolved negatively about 2% .
With 673 units sold, the BMW reached its highest market share: 6.25%. Ie 0.95% more than in 2007.
This result, puts BMW in 5th position in the ranking of the best selling brands in Portugal (over 50 cc.).
Regarding the BMW best-selling model, the leadership of sales fell to R 1200 GS, which, with 231 units, was the 3rd best-selling motorcycle in the national territory.
To highlight the performance of recently introduced models F 800 GS and F 650 GS, which sold 214 units as a whole, value influenced by the unavailability of product of these models, especially in F800GS.
The MINI brand came in 2008 with ambitions to do its best year of sales in order to beat the previous record of 828 units, achieved in 2007.
The introduction of version superdesportiva MINI John Cooper Works allied to the first full year of the MINI Clubman and MINI Cooper D (a version more palatable to the domestic market), resulted in higher sales volume ever achieved: 1,533 units.
The positioning of price, efficiency of the possible range of engines with respect to emissions of CO2 and taxes, was another factor which contributed to this result.
The volume of sales made compared to 2007, represented a growth of 85.1%, a "gift" for the early conclusion of the 50th anniversary of the MINI brand that will mark the calendar in 2009.
BMW Group Financial Services - Best year ever.
As the results in the BMW (and motorcycles) and MINI, the BMW Group also Financial Services, BMW Group's financial, held in 2008 his best year.
With a total of 4,271 new contracts for funding made between cars and BMW motorcycles, cars and other products multimarca MINI, BMW Group Financial Services hit a new record in Portugal with an absolute growth of 8.76% over the previous year.
In total, the BMW Group Financial Services financed 29.6% of sales of new cars BMW, 26.9% of sales of new BMW motorcycles, and 28.5% of sales of new MINI.
Regarding the portfolio of contracts assets at the end of 2008, it was also hit with a new record of 10,280 contracts, representing a growth of 18.2% compared to 2007.
