Motorrad Electrik appreciation in help with charging issue.

So, I was having issues at the beginning of this season with voltage regulator failures. After the third one failed I threw in the towel on trying to find the cause and turned the bike over to my friend at his airhead shop.
During his troubleshooting he contacted Rick at Motorrad Electrik, the company I purchased the upgraded charging system from ten or more years ago. I have to say Rick was super in taking time to discuss not only things I had looked at but took the time to talk to Glenn and discuss other issues.

The result is now my charging system is working 100%, LOL, I didn't get a huge bill and there is riding left to do this season.

I can't say enough good about Rick, not only has he written a very good charging book every airhead owner should have but to take time out of a busy day to address an issue at length is terrific customer service.

As an addition I would like to say thank you to Jodie at EME for being nice enough to replace one of the regulators no questions asked I had blown. St.

So as a customer of both of these vendors, I also can not say enough good things about both companies.
I would like to hear what fixed your regulator issue. I recently had the same happen on my /5. Rick was quick to supply a fix that resolved the problem. I wonder if it is the same.

In my issue the fix was a new diode board. I have the 600 watt system on the bike and for some reason the D+ connection on the heavy duty board failed. It was causing the voltage to spike from low to high and that would pop the voltage regulator. LOL, foolish me had been looking for a ground issue that would cause the problem. It was Glenn, my friend at his shop talking to Rick that put the light onto the board. St.

Thanks, Mine was fixed by attaching a second dedicated ground to the voltage regulator. Rick stated to me this can be a problem on our older airheads. However it is not riding season in Texas and I have not had the opportunity to put any real mileage on this thing. This will give me something to keep an eye on if my Voltage regulator problem comes back.

When the first two v regs blew up, I seriously looked at the ground. I had contacted Rick and he concurred so I upgraded the grounding of the regulator. Sadly, my fix didn't work and that is when Glenn and Rick put their heads together to find a solution.

I suppose I would or might have found the problem with the diode board myself eventually or, I would have taken the .45 to the whole thing, LOL. St.
