Paul Glenn to join Mike Ferreira on the BMW Motorrad Canada Thunder Team
04/10/2008

Whitby. BMW Motorrad Canada is pleased to announce the addition of Paul Glenn to the BMW Motorrad Canada Thunder Team.
Glenn, formerly a rider with Go Big Racing, won the 2007 National Amateur 600cc Sport Bike Championship. Glenn brings with him a solid background of various motorcycle road racing experiences including 600cc Sport Bike, SV Cup, and International experience in the Moto-ST series.

ÔÇ£We are very excited to be adding Paul to the BMW Motorrad teamÔÇØ states Norm Wells, Director of BMW Motorrad Canada. ÔÇ£With PaulÔÇÖs experience in the Moto-ST series and SV Cup here in Canada, it should make for an easier time transitioning to the BMW HP2 Sport.ÔÇØ

Both Mike Ferreira and Paul Glenn will be competing in the Canadian Thunder Championship aboard the 2009 BMW HP2 Sport, the new air-cooled sport twin being launched at Canadian retailers later this year. The HP2 Sport is the sportiest boxer ever to be introduced by BMW Motorrad and the same motorcycle that has been competing in the World Endurance Series in Europe last season.

Mike Ferreira is back with the BMW Motorrad Canada Thunder Team for his second year and looking to improve upon his fifth place finish in the 2007 championship. Ferreira showed glimpses of greatness in 2007, getting up to speed quickly, learning new tracks, with signature blistering starts and a few podium finishes.

ÔÇ£Having Ferreira back again this year, a former Pro 600 Sport Bike Regional Champion and adding Glenn, a National Amateur 600cc Champion, the BMW Thunder Team is well stocked with young Canadian talentÔÇØ, says Chris Duff, Marketing Manager for BMW Motorrad Canada. ÔÇ£We are very proud to be promoting up-and-coming local riders with our National Canadian Thunder Road Racing Program.ÔÇØ

With the rule changes to the Canadian Thunder Series and the 4 new models being campaigned from the other manufacturers in the class, the BMW Motorrad Canada Thunder Team looks forward to a very competitive and exciting year in 2008.

Mike Ferreira will wear number Pro 210, while Paul Glenn will display Pro 79.

BMW WINS PRESTIGIOUS GOLD OUTSTANDING MERCHANDISING AWARD FOR ITS NEW INTERACTIVE DEALER KIOSK DURING GLOBAL SHOP
04/10/2008

Woodcliff Lake, NJ - April 10, 2008... In recognition of its innovative interactive dealer kiosk, BMW of North America received a gold Outstanding Merchandising Award (OMA) for "Best Permanent Display" during a special ceremony held at Global Shop-the U.S.'s largest marketing-at-retail trade show-in Chicago. The OMAs are one of the most prestigious and sought-after awards in the marketing-at-retail industry.
"It is an honor to receive the 2008 Outstanding Merchandising Award for our interactive dealer kiosk," said Jack Pitney, Vice President, Marketing at BMW of North America. "BMW likes to be just as innovative in our marketing strategies as we are in the designs of our vehicles. So it was imperative that our display provided the perfect balance of interactivity and information to effectively capture the attention of consumers-all in a style typical of BMW."

The award-winning kiosk features a sleek BMW-like design, a 46" Sony Bravia LCD screen with a wireless keyboard and over 3 hours of interactive content, including: more than one-hundred short high definition videos and graphic animations about every aspect of BMW (exciting footage of the new M3 and X6, competitive comparisons, European delivery, night vision, dynamic stability control, innovative BMW technology); and information about safety, accessories, the BMW Golf Championship, upcoming events and much more.

Once "inside the system" viewers can get first-hand information about a specific BMW vehicle or any other topic that interests them. Client advisors also frequently use the system to visually explain safety, technology or other features the customer experienced during a test-drive. The kiosks are connected via high-speed T-1 lines and are constantly updated as new material becomes available.

Over 560 entrants representing the best of the marketing-at-retail industry entered this year's contest.

Wonderings:

I have wondered about the process of doing a motorcycle review. I particular I wondered about what roads they include in the process of doing a traditional road test. I did some research. One of the answers I came up with was the Bike 440.

Bike Magazine is the premier British motorcycle magazine. If you are not already familiar with it I highly recommend a trip to the news stand and purchasing one. It is worth the money month after month.

Bike developed a circular route that includes a variety of conditions from the sublime to the dismal in an effort to create the perfect test route. Follow the like above and take a look at what they have to say in the article. Then download the map of the route and read the additional route notes on the map. Study it for a bit and then think about developing your own test route. It does not need to be as long as BikeÔÇÖs route but how many condition variations can you include and want to include in your own route. I suggest this to for two reasons.

In relationship to the idea of writing a road test it helps plan what will be included in your review. How does your bike handle the twisties? Is it flickable or do you have to wrestle it though tight corners? How does it handle the freeway? Is it stable or do you feel you are pushing it on the freeway to keep up? Take it into town and tell us if it is a commuter bike. Can you do the stop and go commute and not need a shower and rub down at the end of the ride before you go to work?

There is another reason to develop your own test route; modifications. Imagine you just installed the perfect new widget for your bike. Now you take it out. Is it doing what you thought it would do? How do you know? Take it on your test route which you are already familiar with the roads and how your bike has handled them in the past. Quickly you find out if the widget is truly the improvement you wanted or not.

Take a look at Bikes 440 test route. Develop your own test route. I think you will find it really helpful in the long run.

In the mean time I will be here wondering. It is snaining (snain: a swear word made by combining the words snow and rain) outside my window as I write this. I wonder how long it will last and when I will be able to safely ride the Roadster again.
