BMW Group Press Club:

What follows is a press release regarding September and Year-to-Date sales for the group. The paragraph just above the graph covers the section of the company we are concerned about and gives a mixed report.

For September sales for BMW Motorcycles were up 11.8%, yet overall the Y-t-D sales are down 1.9%. Without seeing detailed numbers, the increase in September seems to coincide with the European release of the F series and bodes well for customer traffic and sales.

In the short run we can thank Rolls Royce with its increase of 2.4% y-t-d fro carrying the load while the motorrad division rolls out new product.

BMW Group shows increased sales in September and Year-to-Date
BMW brand grows by 2.2% in September
MINI records a minus due to availability issues

Munich. The BMW Group continued its sustained successful growth as the third quarter drew to a close. Sales of BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce brand vehicles rose in the first nine months of 2006 by 3.3% to 1,021,534 (previous year: 988,480). This meant that, for the first time in the company's history, over a million automobiles were sold by the end of the third quarter. On a monthly basis, the number of new vehicles handed over to customers reached 132,194 units (previous year: 131,717/+0.4%). Never before have so many vehicles been sold during the month of September.

For the BMW brand, sales in the year to September 2006 rose by 5.5% to 874,208 automobiles (previous year: 828,597). The core model series BMW 3, 5 and 7 Series all recorded sales increases. For the 3 Series, this increase was 20.5%. With this, the BMW Group's highest selling model series reached 374,996 vehicles sold (previous year: 311,318). Within the 3 Series, the touring version is the leader of the pack in terms of sales growth. With 78,357 of the 3 Series touring sold, sales doubled here compared with the same period in the previous year (39,332/+99.2%). 169,595 of the 5 Series were sold in the year up to and including September, which is 2.1% higher than last year's already high level (166,132). The BMW flagship, the 7 Series, grew by 8.3% to reach 36,784 units (previous year: 33,974). The BMW 1 Series also further expanded its market position. Sales rose by 2,2% to 116,684 automobiles (previous year: 114,200).

Seen on a monthly basis, the BMW brand has grown by 2.2%, with 113,979 deliveries (previous year: 111,524). The new generation of the BMW 3 Series Coup?® and the model revision of the BMW X3 have been delivered to customers since September 23rd. These models will provide an additional boost to growth over the next few months.

Because of the building measures to expand capacity and to change over production to the new generation of the MINI, it has not been possible, during the current year, to completely meet demand from the market.

The number of MINI vehicles delivered through the first three quarters of 2006 was therefore, at 146,851 units, 7.9% less than in the previous year (159,419).
On a monthly basis, sales of MINI fell to 18,140 units (previous year: 20,118/-9.8%) compared with September 2005. The new generation of MINI in Europe will be launched on the market on November 18. The expanded production capacities will thus also be available, and this will take sales of MINI to new record levels.

Rolls-Royce increased the number of Phantoms delivered in the months up to and including September by 2.4% to 475 automobiles (previous year: 464). In September, 75 Rolls-Royce vehicles were delivered (previous year: 75).

In the motorcycle segment, sales for the year ending September were slightly below the previous year, declining by 1.9% to 79,333 (previous year: 80,840). In the month of September 2006, 7,926 BMW motorcycles were sold, which is a remarkable increase of 11.8% over the previous year's figure (7,089).

BMW Press conference is scheduled for today October 10th between 4:00 and 5:30PM local time in Cologne.

I found this press release while searching the BMW Group Network. It explains the basis for all the rumors and excitement. Focus your attention on the second paragraph, which I have bolded for you.

BMW Motorrad unveils new models at Intermot

10/05/2006

With just 7 days to go until the Intermot International Motorcycle and Scooter Fair speculation is rife over the new models due to be unveiled by the world's leading manufacturers. The 5th annual show will take place between 11-15 October at the Cologne Exhibition Centre and will be the first chance for many to see what will be in the showrooms next year. On its home turf, BMW Motorrad will be proudly presenting the world premiere of five new motorcycles.

All five models are sure to come as a surprise to those taking guesses at BMW Motorrad's next move and they are certainly designed to push the boundaries of the BMW brand even further. The younger, sportier, more adventurous side of BMW is set to take centre stage during 2007 and these five new bikes will surprise and thrill riders in equal measures.

Other highlights on the BMW Motorrad stand will include a display of the entire BMW Motorrad model line-up, including the six bikes launched in 2006: the K 1200 GT tourer; the R 1200 GS Adventure; the F 800 S/ST middleweight twins; the R 1200 S sports boxer; and the latest addition, the R 1200 R naked roadster.

Alongside the motorcycle range, key new items from the eagerly anticipated new BMW Motorrad Rider Equipment collection will be on display throughout the show. These will include the new colour options for the best-selling Streetguard 2 suit.

This year's INTERMOT show will take place over a 120,000m?? of indoor hall space and a 75,000m?? outdoor area at the newly-refurbished exhibition centre. Visitors can expect stands and displays from hundreds of motorcycle and accessory manufacturers, as well as an exciting support programme of events. Newly crowned European Stuntriding Champion and BMW Motorrad factory rider Chris Pfeiffer will perform his incredible array of tricks and stunts on his BMW F 800 S.

This may be a simple thing that you all have. Yet I wonder why it is not available on the BMW NA site. From BMW-Motorrad.co.uk: Maintenance plans online. Select your model and print out the maintenance schedule from a pdf format file available online.

Over at SoundRider.com some guy by the name of David L. Hough has part 1 of a four part series on Cornering Control. It may be worth a read he seems to be an okay writer.

Set aside 1:19.49 to watch MOTOAFRYKA video, with English subtitles, that takes you from Gdansk to Cape Town. Online or available download. This is not your normal YouTube mini clip. It is not a big budget Long Way Round style video either. It is a once in a lifetime trip for a coupe of guys on a limited budget. Makes me want to put a bash plate on the Roadster and head south for the winter, if I could just remember where I put that Super 8 movie camera I took to Africa the last time.

It's been 10 minutes and that image from Raptors and Rockets is still loading. They have one of the slowest sites on the internet causing must pain and discomfort.

Their web site is one of the few that I have found posting pictures from Intermot. I suspect they are getting mega hits.

No maintenance plans for the R1200RT though. R1200GS is as close as you can get.
