Metzler ME99 upgrade?

New member
I've used Metzler ME33 (3.25x19) and ME99 (4.00x18) for years on my '82 RS. Now I'm not finding the ME99 anywhere. Does anyone know what Metzler offers for my bike? Any other recommendations. Thanks, Ed

Michelins

I recently switched to Michelin macadams and love the way they corner. I feel better in turns then ever, but they probably won't last as long. It's a trade off, for turns I'd go with the michelins, for the slab I'd look elsewhere.

If you want to stick to Metzler's...

One of my airheads has the ME33 Laser on the front, the other has the ME880.

Both have Metzler ME88's on the back, 120X18.

They work well for my style of riding. But then, I went from having cupped, boxed ME77's on both front and rear, so getting the new rubber on was a revelation.

Try Lasertec?

Metzeler came out with a new tire called the Lasetec that is a "Grand Unified Tire" supposedly replacing most of their older bias ply line including the ME33, ME99, ME55 and some of the ME1s. Unfortunately the current size list on their website only shows metric size tires and no 19" fronts, good thing I bought a new Laser front last fall and have plenty of tread on my 4.00x18 ME99 rear.

I can vouch for the Michelin's. After years with Metzlers and never being able to quite figure out the proper tire pressure I went somewhere else. No regrets.

PS: Just had the Progressive rear suspension installed on the bike today. WOW!!! Sweet, very sweet.
