Looking for a little help

Hello members, I'm a long time member and own a fleet of BMW motorcycles. I am trying to add another to the fleet of rescues, restorations, projects and late model collectables. I have found a a /5 in need of a little help, it is located in Eau Claire Wisconsin. The owner had removed the transmission at some point due to some type of failure in it, unfortunately this has made it nearly impossible to get the bike shipped as it is not a rolling bike.

I am looking for someone or an independent shop that can reinstall the transmission and button up the bike so that it can be shipped. The pictures show the subframe, swing arm and the other components still attached, I believe the swing arm pivot pins are removed and that has made the bike a non-rolling project at this point. I have reached out to the Vintage club and my fellow Airhead members so far with no luck. I live about 1800 miles away so it is a little beyond a weekend project for me.

It'll roll without the transmission, it just needs the swingarm pins reinstalled. There's no point reinstalling the transmission if it's broken, unless the shipper won't carry any unattached parts.

Jeff, I responded to you over on the Vintage club site. Let me know if I can help, thanks.
Dave, Great to hear from you. By the way I got the Silver R 50/5 up and running and I'm currently sorting out the electrical gremlins. Funny the first thing I found was the main power lead to the starter was barely on the stud and the nut was down under the starter. I'm keeping it crusty until I get it all sorted and get a clear title for it.

Anyway I'm looking at a 1970 R 50/5 for sale in Wisconsin, I have been in contact with the owner regarding the bike. He explained he had removed the transmission due a second gear issue and never got around to getting it fixed. He explained he made some type of stand to support the bike while the transmission was out, he never did get it fixed and the bike has been sitting ever since. I don't think he thought to just reinstall the swing arm pins to stabilize and keep it a roller. He is in his eighties and not really able to reassemble the bike which I completely understand.

I'm looking for someone close to this guy who can reinstall the transmission and get it mobile so I can ship it to me down here in Florida. Another quicker option would be to install the pins in the swing arm, get it rolling to be shipped and box up the transmission, carbs and assorted spare parts and ship those to me separately.

Of course I don't expect this to be a free favor and I'm willing to cough up some $$$ for the help with this. I have kinda grown found of those baby boxers and would like to have one of each color.

Thank you for responding

Jeff

Thank you Anton: I have the same perspective on the bike and just hope that something can come together and get this done. I'm just looking for a little help here and will step up and make it right for the helper.

I may be able to help at some point. I live a bit over an hour away and it could be trailered to my home and put on the lift. Unfortunately though I may not be able to help until late September to mid October.

Looking at the calendar I could do this the last weekend of September and can do it at the gentleman’s location if he is ok with it.

Hi Mark, I have a couple other responses on this at this time and hope it all works out. There is also an option to reinstalling the swing arm pivot pins to create a roller and then boxing up the transmission, carbs and other parts to ship separately. I will keep you posted on this.
