LidLox Helmet Lock

I've used a LidLox helmet lock on my past two BMW's. I just added MachineMotoArt handguards to my GSA after which the LidLox bar end device no longer fits (due to a longer bar end that is too long for the provided LidLox bolt made for the standard bar end). Their LidLox site says they are "currently closed" and sorry for the inconvenience, but it's said this for weeks now.

Does anyone know whether they are premanenetly closed. Maybe they close for the winter season, but I would think by now, given the approaching riding season, that if this were the case they would have reopened by now. Anyone have any information about them? Thanks, Don

I guess I need pictures. Is there something extraordinary about the LidLox bolt that prevents obtaining a longer bolt from a hardware store or McMaster Carr?

I use MirrorLok devices on my R1200RTw along with R1200GS perches and mirrors. The MirrorLok devices extend the GS mirrors out further and allow better rear visibility (for me). Also I can use the MirrorLok devices for their intended purpose, which is to secure one's helmet.

It's a bolt within a bolt setup. A longer generic one would require having it milled out.

Paul, the LidLox locking mechanism attaches to the bar end. The lock itself actually screws into the bolt that holds the bar end to the handlebar. Essentially, it's a hollowed out bolt that recieves another bolt. An odd but effective application. I really like the LidLok for it's implicity and ease of use, but I suspect that they've gone out of business. I'll have to find an alternative.

Robsryder, thanks for the info on MirrorLok. I had never heard of it before. It looks like it would work well. Thanks, Don

We have the MirrorLoks on both of our G310GS bikes. They reduce mirror vibration, extend the mirrors horizontally, and provide the locks for helmets. They work well and I like them. They were designed by and are built by Al Jesse of Jesse Luggage fame. After he sold Jesse Luggage Al needed something else to keep him busy :) I guess.

Paul, I have another question regarding your MirrorLoks. When I look at their website the pictures show the helmet being secured using a looping cable threaded through the helmet. What I like about the LidLox is that the locking bolt was thin enough that I could simply insert the helmet buckle into the lock to secure my helmet, so I didn't need fiddle with a cable. I realize this would allow someone to take the helmet by cutting the strap, but I'm more concerned about the "casual" thief. The MirrorLok bolt appears to be thicker than the LidLox. Can you insert your helmet buckle into the MirrorLok bolt or do you have to use a security cable. Thanks, Don

Yes. It gets a little fiddly maybe because of the location of the mirror and my GPS mounts but the loop easily goes through the buckle
